Sowell: Abstract Immigrants in an Abstract World
Creators Syndicate ^ | August 30, 2016 | Thomas Sowell

Posted on 08/29/2016 1:44:36 PM PDT by jazusamo

Why would a country with the world's largest Jewish population, outside of Israel, admit large numbers of immigrants from countries where hatred of Jews has been taught to their people from earliest childhood?

This question is ultimately not about Muslims and Jews. It is about discussing immigrants in the abstract, rather than in terms of the specific concrete realities of particular immigrants in particular circumstances at a particular time and place — that time being now and that place being the United States of America.

A hundred years ago, when immigration from other parts of the world was a major issue, there was a government study which provided voluminous statistics on how immigrants from various countries performed in American society — economically, educationally and in terms of social pathology.

Today, it would not be considered right — that is, not politically correct — even to ask such questions about immigrants, especially if immigrants were broken down by country of origin. Despite some among the intelligentsia who like to refer to the past as "earlier and simpler times," it is we today who are so simple-minded as to discuss immigrants as if they were just abstract people in an abstract world, to whom we could apply our abstract principles.

Yet there are immigrants from some countries who swell the welfare rolls, while immigrants from some other countries almost never go on welfare. Immigrants from some countries are highly educated — more so than most Americans — while immigrants from other countries have little education and few skills.

I don’t want people who believe in wife beating and stoning adulterous or raped women, throwing gays off buildings, screwing little boys and killing people who are not of their religion anywhere near me or my country.

Dr. Sowell did not mention the drug smuggling and violent turf wars amongst the border states, which partly fuel the drug-related gang violence in inner cities.

Societal tolerance of the druggies (we are not talking about the 60’s hippies smoking a joint or two) changed. Obama directly tells us imprisonment for ‘non-violent’ drug dealers is not ‘the best use of our prison facilities’, and in fact he released some criminals just to make his point.

Don't even get me start on churches and sanctuary cities.

I hear you, and there’s very close to no such thing as a ‘non-violent’ drug dealer.

Not long ago a show about California legalization and those growers prepping for it gave such a sunny, hippy loving view of the trade in Weed.

Yet own many of these goofy, fun loving old hippies the show was so enamored of know where some bodies are buried? Or know who knows?

Spherical immigrants in a vacuum, as a physicist would joke.

Immigrants from some countries are highly educated — more so than most Americans — while immigrants from other countries have little education and few skills.

Analysis by ... oh, I don't remember which immigration think-tank ... indicates that the education level of immigrants is the key factor in whether they are economic contributors or life-long economic drains. This is a change from earlier situations of low-education immigrants because (1) social benefits cost so much now, and (2) public schools are much less successful at educating the poor.

“My answer to the first paragraph is simple:

Yeah. Sometimes these intellectuals overthink everything to the point of overlooking the obvious: Obama was raised by communists and mohammedans; that is what he knows and what he loves.

He acts consistently in accord with those two totalitarian ideologies.

Period.

Sowell is a hypocrite.

He has done everything in his power to ridicule and discredit Trump, who has been anti-self-destructive muslim immigration from the get go.

He has also been all for abstract theories regarding zero tariffs and Free Trade, and has always ridiculed people like Trump who consistently pointed out the real world, disastrous results of instituting such abstract economic theories.

If Hillary does win, her victory must indeed be placed at the feet of this globalist liberal pretending to be a conservative. He will have helped bring about a Hillary presidency by discrediting Trump, many of whose beliefs he only now is beginning to understand.

Immigration criteria should be desireable v undesireable.
Undesireable:
No murderers, rapists, DUI drivers.

No terrorists. Every immigrant, regardless of refugee, green card, tourist, student or other should be tested for tolerance; for accepting Bill of Rights, Constitution, Dec of Independence.

No welfare parasites. No immigrant, legal, illegal, refugee or naturalized citizen. We can arbitrarily discriminate against non-citizens. Naturalization should require a contract and contract law to enforce they don’t get welfare. Nobody immigrant should force US taxpayers to subsidize him.

Desireable
Immigrants who work, take care of their families, pay their taxes, don’t bother others.

Trump should emphasize NO WELFARE.

Charity is the province of churches and charitable organizations. If we got rid of welfare for all, many ills would solve themselves.

1. Overgrown government
2. Mass immigration of mooches
3. National debt.
4. Socialist power
