I don’t think Eisenhower was addressing the horrors of war. He was concerned about the enormity of the funding devoted to weapons and defense systems. Today’s staggering budgets are way beyond what he could have imagined, I suppose.

You are correct about the costs, however, he saw first hand, what was left of Europe.

In either case, the bill will be paid.
