In 1980 the mainstream media and polling companies took it to about two weeks before the election before they came clean. I feel something very similar happening today. In 1980 our economy was in shambles, our foreign policy a laughingstock and our leader appeared weak. Things haven’t changed much this time around.

Reagan's pollster was a man named Richard Wirthlin who was so good that he predicted a 40 state win to Reagan privately. He underestimated by four.

I had the distinct pleasure of taking a college level statistics class from one of Withlin's staffers who shared some of the techniques. Wirthlin's group honed those stills enough by 1984 that he predicted a 47 state win. This time, he was only off by two.
