Nigel Farage and Donald Trump embody the desire of their societies for a dignified and managed retreat from empire. By contrast, Hillary Clinton represents the last frenetic attempt within the US to sustain its imperial role.

I’ve often considered our ‘retreat from empire’ to be a bit akin to getting off the tiger’s back.
The worst is that it is not even an American empire. It is an empire of globalists, and the useful American idiots, our so-called elites, are middle men in selling out, selling off and looting our assets.
I cannot let that first sentence stand.
The “Empire” is NOT a US EMPIRE. IT IS GLOBALIST.
The globalists fear a strong USA, because that is the only force that can prevent them from establishing 1,000-year rulership of the globalist oligarchy (provided Americans wake up in time).
The U.S. has been a convenient military arm of globalism since Vietnam if not before, and moreso since the fall of the USSR . . . when we have been used for causes that had little or nothing to do with American national interests. (Think: Bosnia, Iraq, Libya to name a few examples).
The US Fed has been a useful piggy bank.
U.S. citizens have been SUCKERS, allowing ourselves to fall 19.5 Trillion in debt to these evil monsters. This will eventually be an asset takeover as in so many lesser countries.
I wouldn’t mind our empire if I actually got benefits from it. As it stands the elites get rich and we get the sh*t from it.
So long as we remain capable (and believed willing) to obliterate the bullies who will try to fill the vacuum we leave. If we’re to end the 70 plus year old Pax Americana we need to remember that when the other major “Pax’s”, Romana and Britannica, ended there followed years and even some centuries of war. So withdrawal must be accompanied by a modernization of American force capabilities to a genuine twenty first century standard, and especially into space.
Folks are just day-dreaming if they think there won’t be tyrants out there we’ll have to confront.
This is hippy-like daisies and bliss talk.
Folks, this is a troubled world. Get it out of your head we aren’t going to have military skirmishes. It’s just realistic.
BUMP! BUMP!
Useful insights. I wish the author had explored it from your angle.
