Mexico considers bill to revoke treaties if Trump wins election
The Irish Times ^ | 5 September 2016 | Jude Webber

So you want to play hardball, Mr Trump? Mexico is to consider revoking a series of treaties – including the 1848 agreement that transferred half its territory to the United States – if the Republican candidate wins the presidency and rips up the North American Free Trade Agreement, according to a Bill to be presented to Congress.

The initiative, to be proposed on Tuesday by Armando Ríos Piter, a left-wing senator, follows last week’s much-criticised meeting between Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto and US presidential contender Donald Trump, which inflamed public opinion and sparked a cabinet rift. Mr Peña Nieto has faced a fierce backlash at home over what many saw as his red carpet treatment of Mr Trump, who has branded Mexicans rapists and wants to build a border wall that he insists Mexico will pay for. “This is the first step towards establishing a public policy about how Mexico should react in the face of a threat,” Mr Ríos Piter told the Financial Times.

“This [Bill] is simply to protect a successful 22-year-old relationship [Nafta] that has helped both nations,” he said. “We want to defend that from a position that seeks to destroy it. We have to put it in black and white.”

Well, now we KNOW the NAFTA agreement heavily favors Mexico. If they're willing to basically start the path down towards war over territory, then we know they raping us with NAFTA.

So let’s do it.

NAFTA and mass Mexican illegal immigration is just war by other means.

If the angry thugs of Mexico want the Southwest by military means, let’s go.

Should be quick.

I think re-opening the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo is an excellent idea.

Let the people in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila and Nuevo Leon choose which country they want to belong to.

Awesome! What more do you need to vote for Trump? This is an outstanding opportunity to get Mexico out of our wallets.

If we took Baja we could shorten the wall by hundreds of miles.
Thinking the people in Baja would be fine with that.

All I can say is for them to Go For It. We then close the border to anyone coming into the US and ALL MEXICANS here. Plus, we ban all remittances to Mexico. All. But Mexican government collapses within 30 days.

This is just as bogus as the celebrities who promise to leave for Canada. They know that if they tear up those treaties they would have to negotiate . . . with: Trump. Not a chance! They can’t be that stupid.

“This [Bill] is simply to protect a successful 22-year-old relationship [Nafta] that has helped both nations,”

That confirms for me, that NAFTA is bad.

Sounds like ‘tough talk’ for a country that was going to ‘sue’ the US if the flow of money INTO Mexico from the illegals was halted.

Also had threatened to ‘sue’ if the deportees meant a raise in welfare benefits for Mexico & its towns/cities.

At least that is what I had ‘heard’.....

Sounds good actually. Let’s put everything on the table. Then, Iran, then China.

If we took all of Mexico we wouldn’t need a southern border wall. Mexico already has one.

Fine-close the border and don’t let American tourists go to Mexico-let’s see how long it takes for their tourist industry to crater-there will be lots of empty hotels soon...
