Brown University's student body president will be hand-delivering menstrual products into all nonresidential bathrooms with the help of 20 other students as classes begin this week, and, as of this fall, New York City public school students will provide free tampons and pads in all school buildings with sixth through 12th graders.

"There's been a lot of conversation about why pads and tampons are a necessity, not a luxury, but not a lot of action. We wanted to take it into our own hands," says Nguyen, a senior studying education policy. "Low-income students struggle with having the necessary funding for food, let alone tampons."

By putting menstrual products in women's, men's and gender-inclusive bathrooms, Nguyen's campaign highlights an often-ignored fact: Not all people who menstruate are women.

Where and when I went to high school, the boys would have those essential hygienic products completely emptied out and put to creative uses throughout the building in less than 30 seconds!
Where do I go to get my weekly ration of bourbon?
As a man, I’m micro-aggressed and need my free stuff.
If the women get free stuff, I want free stuff too.
Make good earrings too!
Me? But you’ll have to travel to NYC :)
Not all people who menstruate are women?
Say what?
I don’t recognize this country anymore.
Of corse, it’s asinine that more freebies are being handed out.
But this is not nearly as egregiously immoral and disgusting and destructive as handing out free sex-related stuff.
Uh, I think you're mistaken, there, Nguyen.
That was a great article. I really admire that man’s initiative and perseverance in trying to help alleviate million’s of women’s misery.
They’re putting free sanitary pads in the men’s room, too ... what more do you want?
They’ll all be emptied in minutes.. Then there will be more complaining.
If they have a cell phone, they can afford tampons.
If they cannot pay for their own tampons or birth control, mandatory Depo Provera injections every three months that stops your period and fertility seems to be in order.
Or a Norplant for five years.
Many years ago, you could buy them for a quarter or go to the nurses office if you didn’t have any money or if the machine was empty or broken. Free supplies were for emergencies. I see nothing wrong with occasional free supplies, but this country is turning into a bunch of whiny babies who only want to spend their money on fun things. No responsibility anymore.

He has an entrepreneurs spirit, he found a need that if filled would benefit people greatly and he found a way to fill it effectively!
“...tampons are a necessity, not a luxury...”
It is a luxury...just wait till these guys get their socialist into power and it will be like the Soviet Union. When the USSR put Yuri Gagarin into Space even its high Communist Party member women outside of Moscow did not have access to such items. They used rags, washed, and reused them.
These people are just pandering to outmoded bourgeoisie thinking.
One social taboo after another. He went through some hardship doing research. His ground breaking work enables the women to help themselves. I think he would be a good candidate for a Nobel prize for economics.
“By putting menstrual products in women’s, men’s and gender-inclusive bathrooms,....”
Just guessing but putting them in the “gender inclusive bathrooms” is just for laughs!
