The New York Times incorrectly cited Aleppo as the capital of the Islamic State while skewering Libertarian Presidential nominee Gary Johnson for his embarrassing lack of knowledge regarding the city.
NYT journalist Alan Rappeport described Johnsons gaffe as a being a potentially serious blow to his hopes of making the debate stage, as he himself labeled Aleppo as ISISs de facto capital. To make matters worse, NYT had to run a correction to the correction after describing Aleppo as the capital of Syria.
To clarify the matter, Damascus is the capital of Syria and Raqqa is the de facto capital of ISIS. Aleppo, the war-torn city at the center of the ongoing Syrian conflict, was the countrys largest city before the civil war began in 2011. Today, many of the citys residents have either been killed or forced to flee.
The series of fumbles regarding Aleppo began Thursday morning, when Johnson was asked by MSNBCs Mike Barnicle what he would do to solve the crisis in Aleppo.
And what is Aleppo? replied Johnson.
As Rappeport put it, Johnson then struggled to recover, much in the same way NYT did after publishing the piece.
Republicans are just so stupid.
Correction: Anyone who isn’t a Democrat is just so stupid.
Johnson thinks Alepo is the fifth Marx Brother
I am sure this “gotcha Johnson journalism” coming exactly one day after it was reported that Johnson was pulling more vote from Hillary than Trump is a *complete* coincidence. There is not even the most remote possibility the MSM would tilt the news in Clinton’s favor....and your racist and sexist for even thinking it.
Better than mislabeling Al Nusra as “Freedom Fighter” and sending them weapons, I suppose...
Guess the media finally figured out that Gary was hurting Hillary more than Trump. They spent all that time promoting him and now they have to pull him down.
Anyone with a decent university education knows where Aleppo is!!!! They might even know something about this Syrian city. including its important Christian history up to the current Syrian civil war!
Speaking of Aleppo, EVERYONE should view “The Hidden Pearl”, readily available on YouTube. It will show the viewer what was lost in Christian Syria, even in the last year or two under ISIS:

Gary Johnson’s Aleppo gaffe proves him to be an idiot!!!! He should cease his idiotic campaign, endorse Donald Trump, and STOP helping Crooked Hillary, which is what he is doing!!
As for the New York Times, it is USELESS, and I don’t expect its personnel to know anything that a really educated person should know. All they know about is how to be politically correct, which is pure PHOOEY!!!!
Serious blow?
This is a minor party candidate, with no real chance of winning even a pot dispensary in Denver...why the hell is the press so apoplectic?
Your caption should say: Journalists are just so smart.
“Johnson thinks Alepo is the fifth Marx Brother
Naw, after his first couple of “hits” in the a.m., he thinks it’s Alpo for his dog!
It was a gotcha question from a snobby reporter.
I don’t care much at all for Gary Johnson and think hs is just a needless and useless distraction in a terribly important election.
However, I consider this Aleppo controversy to be nothing but a “Gotcha”.
It is ‘Much Ado About Nothing’.
Gary isn’t a viable candidate and knowledge or lack of knowledge about any subject won’t change that.
And we all know that every president has herds of advisors and specialists to bring them up to date on every imaginable issue.
I would rather see the time and attention given to “Aleppo-Gate” redirected to the serious defects in Hillary Clinton’s past performance and her lies and criminal conduct.
But then - blowing the issue out of proportion is just a convenient way to keep the public’s attention off Hillary Clinton.
Johnson’s voters are coming from the Clinton side they MUST DESTROY him!!!!
Heh
People in glass houses...
Wow - this is great! Thanks for posting it.
