It’s not a “tick.” It’s a Grave Accent. Like, “she’s got one foot in the grave.” That’s what a Grave Accent is for, I think.

Never heard it called a grave accent, but a check with Wikipedia says that’s exactly what it is. Too bad it isn’t a double grave `` accent, which actually exits too.
