To clarify some things.
Pepe, and many iterations thereof, are memes created by the anarchic website 4chan, where all posters are anonymous, and in fact this anonymity gave rise to the group Anonymous.
Anonymous has pulled off some amazing Internet pranks, their major motivation being to “do it for the LOL’s” (Laughing Out Loud). However, they can also be very, very savage.
Those they take against are people like pedophiles, child and animal abusers, those who threaten them, and those who try to use their anonymity to carry out crimes. In such cases, Anonymous has proven to be very competent detectives, locating such people and turning them over to the authorities.
However, some of their pranks have led to dubious people, even governments, trying to *pretend* to represent Anonymous, to carry out evil deeds and espionage.
To be suckered by a common 4chan meme is just embarrassing.
So now it’s white supremacists who make up the alt-right?
They just keep making things up, trying to find something — ANYTHING — that sticks.
