Funny that the CBC would pay much attention to the general subject.I always thought that gun control was basically “settled science” there with the generally accepted belief that the general population shouldn't be allowed to own them.

I’ve stated it multiple times as a former canadastani/canuckistani.

No one network comes close to anti-Americanism than the CBC. These assholes make ISIS/NBC/CBS look like the RNC.

You should have seen the previous interviews they had of conservatives during the height of the Iraq War circa 2003. Their favorite tactic is the “surround and destroy’ strategy where they have one American pro-US guy and the interviewees (around 3-6) where the frothing at the mouth “I hate you Americans” moderators.

Western Canada isn’t as anti gun as Eastern Canada is.

Hunters are an endangered species here in Canada. The previous Conservative government abolished the useless and wasteful national gun registry but I expect muslim-hugger Trudeau to reinstate it with something even more draconian.

Justice Minister Stéphanie Vallée tables legislation June 10, 2015, at the National Assembly in Quebec City. She was the sponsor of Bill 59, “An Act to enact the Act to prevent and combat hate speech and speech inciting violence and to amend various legislative provisions to better protect individuals.”

The Quebec government will table an amendment to eliminate clauses in Bill 59 — the bill on hate speech.

Justice Minister Stéphanie Vallée said the measure would be taken because the clauses in the bill are impeding the adoption process through the National Assembly.

“The measures involving hate speech have a purpose,” she said, adding that there isn’t a consensus among politicians. “I think we want to work positively on this side of the aisle.”

The proposed law would forbid the broadcasting or discussing of hateful statements in public, or speech inciting violence against a group of people, like an ethnic group or members of a religious affiliation.

Parti Québécois MNA Agnès Maltais said the retraction would allow the government to move on and focus on the section of the bill pertaining to forced marriages.

Last week, Maltais had asked Bill 59 be pulled out of fear it would gag the opinions of certain groups, critics or commentators.

In Quebec on Wednesday, Maltais said several editorialists had supported the PQ’s stance on the bill.

“We are doing it because we believe that freedom of speech is fundamental in a healthy democracy and because this bill was received mostly unfavourably by the majority of groups, analysts, jurists and political commentators,” she said.

At a briefing, Vallée confirmed the government had noticed the lukewarm welcome.

“This is far from the end,” she said. “I think we all read the news and know that despite our good will and efforts there is no appetite to control hate speech in Quebec.”

Vallée noted that several jurisdictions around the world had passed laws to put restraints on hate speech.

According to the minister, the opposition party’s obstruction during Bill 59’s in-depth study contributed to her decision to pull the clause.

We met a guy from Alberta earlier this year while vacationing in the Caribbean. One thing he said to us that stuck with me is that Alberta is Canada's Texas. So I guess what you say points to what you've said...among other things.

Surprisingly decent for CBC. They did not seem flustered when John told them their facts were wrong.
