The lifetime of Shimon Peres, who died Tuesday at age 93 after suffering a stroke on Sept. 13, spans the lifetime of the state of Israel. Born in Belarus, his family moved to Tel Aviv when he was 11, more than a decade before the country was founded. He lived on a kibbutz, when those communal settlements and a utopian, leftist ideology defined the nascent state. He also served in the pre-independence militia that became the Israeli Defense Forces, the institution that would ultimately define Israeli society. A hawk in the early decades of the countrys existence, Peres was a close aide and protege of David Ben-Gurion, the founding father and first prime minister of Israel, and confidant of Moshe Dayan, the commander of the Six-Day War that placed the mountainous West Bank of the Jordan River, and hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, under Israeli military occupation. At the time, Peres encouraged the establishment of Jewish enclaves on that territory, famously calling settlements the roots and the eyes of Israel.

You beat me by a minute and some seconds.
Big news isn’t it
I would be willing to bet he would have liked Donald Trump’s plan to keep Jerusalem unified as the eternal capitol of Israel.
Shalom Shimon may Adonai be with you!

Obama will post a selfie
well, what diversion will Obama dream up to avoid going to this patriot’s funeral? Already scheduled Reggie sleep-over?
Unless Obama has a story to tell about Peres that involves him, he’ll probably ignore him.
Was he any good?

No , Peres was always trying to give land away.
He thought by handing it over there would be peace.
What happens next, may it be on her enemies' own heads.
He actually wanted to make Jerusalem an international city and hand the fakestinians all of Judea and Samria .
Fits his name sake too - Peres means to divide
in contrast to Bibi - Benjamin means son of my right hand and Natanyahu means God gives.
Then he became a rambling old fool who kept sticking his two cents in.
The whole “Oslo agreement” was a steaming pile of crap. It was the wrong path entirely, under the conditions agreed. Israel never should have recognized the PA or allowed Arafart and his gang of terrorists to install themselves. Certainly “Oslo” never should have been agreement without complete recognition of Israel from the PA and major Arab powers.
Peres and friends pushed Israel into strategic concessions that enabled the so-called “Palestinians” to install the terrorist gangs of Hamas, Islamic Jihad, et al. with far more capability than they ever should have had.
But not with Peres. They aren't going to the same place.

Not surprised the media overlooked his passing.
