Pretty hard for them not to. Democrats love giving lawyers more opportunity to sue people and Republicans hate terrorists.
Obama meanwhile wanted to shore up his multi-million dollar speaking fees with the Saudis.
Reid has a big enough profile that he is probably in line for a nice fat speaking fee from the Saudis too.

IF Reid were still Majority leader, veto vote would have never made it to the floor, that’s how most of the early Obama crap got done, Reid ran interference for him in the senate.
