This was no mistake. I’m just surprised they admitted it.

I wish I could agree, but being an AV Tech myself I must admit that there are variables that cannot be considered.
1. The microphone was a directional vs an omni-directional. It picks up a very small field, but is intense within that location field. Trump is tall. If a microphone was not tested with the same person who will be speaking variables burn you. Vocal tones, volume, distance to the microphone....
The wrong angle on a microphone will cause the breath to pop the diaphragm.
Just having people in the room changes signal transmission. I’ve tested microphones for conferences, several hundred people walked in and sat down, their bodies blocked the signal and I had to raise the receiver higher...
The microphones used for the debate were hard wired. Much less chance of signal interference.
Both Trump and Hillary also wore wireless lapel microphones. That was the wire and the transmitter pack you saw in Hillary’s back.
It appeared that the Tech switched to the lavaliere microphone for Trump as his voice differential did not change much when he moved from the podium microphone.
I concur. No sale on the whoops bit. And in front of a gazillion people?
I actually think it was tested and whoever did it knew exactly how to adjust the audio/mic setting to achieve exactly that effect.
Begs the question, why didn’t the sound boss fix it at the beginning of this atrocious audio?
