The same thing has happened at least once before. Two Afghan trainees disappeared in January but were located. This doesn;t necessarily have anything to do with terrorism. For someone who doesn’t want to spend the rest of their life in Afghanistan, going AWOL in the US might look like a very good option.
Look for something to go, ‘BOOM’ in the coming weeks.

This is an ongoing problem. Happens all the time but no one in the military or gov seems too concerned with it.
