Donald Trump continues to demonstrate strength in the north. A recent Emerson College poll also put Trump within six points. While he is behind Hillary Clinton, this is a lot closer than anybody would have thought. It is not inconceivable for Trump to win the Garden State.

For context, Obama won NJ by 18%. This would put Trump up 12% relative to the communist bigot currently occupying our White House.

New Jersey will not end up in his column, but I’m not surprised its closer than expected. Trump has a bit of a “home field advantage” in northern New Jersey because he’s been all over the media in New York City for decades. A lot of the things that might turn off a moderate voter in other parts of the country ... like a loud-mouthed, blustering personality ... works well in New Jersey. It sure didn’t hurt Chris Christie in two statewide elections. In fact, it was an asset for him.

there are some states to the West that Obama won and Trump is now leading. That’s got to be good for a swing of six or seven points. I wouldn’t put too much of the Jersey closeness on him being blustery and known. I’m a blustery New Yorker who followed him for decades and cruz was my guy up until the New York comment.

Trump’s doing well in a lot of the states Obama took big over Romney, we just need those last few percentage points.

LOL! These “polls” are all over the place. Everybody’s doing them. A lot of those doing them are clueless.

I don’t see Trump carrying NJ unless it’s a national landslide for him. Still, this is scary for Hillary. If she’s forced to spend time and money in states like New Jersey, New Mexico and Minnesota then that’s good news. This has been the most unconventional presidential campaign probably in our lifetime, and it’s safe to say none of us has a real clue what will happen.

I live here, and travel to Cape May & Somers Point frequently. I have only seen TWO Illary signs, and NO bumper stickers at all.

My husband works all over Southern New Jersey and he has not seen any Illary signs or stickers either.

Just Trump.

I’m hopeful...

Trump might consider a rally on the NJ side of the PA border. It could be a twofer and get the Witch worried.

Trump is doing much better in NJ than did Romney. If this applies nationwide, Trump will easily win on Election Night.

You should have put NJ in the title! You about gave me a heart attack here.

If the Secretary of Hate is only up 6 points in NJ - this is very good news for Trump.

Once again the D/R split is not shown. This seems to be a sudden new trend for pollsters.

Sham ones, anyways.

Actually, the Emerson poll in NJ last month has him within four points.

He could win with an unexpected Republican voter turnout.

If they have to start worrying about New Jersey, Minnesota, Wisconsin and etc. they’re in big trouble.

New Jersey hs a Cook pvi of 6% to the Democrats so that would be compatible with a tied across the nation. unless of course Trump is doing better there that in the rest of the country. The Garden State used to lean Republican, but,I guess somebody dumped a lot of manure on this Garden.

Trump will, I think, win nicely in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and several more states in the NE/Great Lakes regions.
I THINK he can also take New Jersey but it will take work by everyone there who cares about the future of USA and our economy/getting some jobs back....

a very good thing about New Jersey (for purposes of this election) is that Trump’s advertising in the NYC and Philadelphia markets will pretty much saturate most of New Jersey, too

but he does need to do some direct marketing and campaigning in Jersey itself to win, I think

Trump is campaigning in Pueblo, Colorado Oct 3. This is yuge, because Team Trump recognizes that southern Colorado is the key to winning the state. The southern areas usually go democrat, but are blue collar democrats, who are exactly the demographic Trump is peeling away from the dems. If he can take those democrats, he can beat the Boulder progressives and win the state.

Also, the mountain areas are often democrat due to environmentalists, but recently the EPA poisoned two rivers with "botched" mine tailing cleanups. Trump can campaign in the mountain areas and pick up votes.
