I'm sure as soon as they declare independence from Spain, they'll rush to enslave themselves to the EU.

I'm not sure I agree with you. One of the main reason they want their independence from Spain is an economic one to begin with.

Why does Catalonia want independence from Spain?

The economic crisis in Spain has only served to magnify calls for Catalan independence – as the wealthy Barcelona region is seen as propping up the poorer rest of Spain.

I’m only going by what my Basque friend tells me, but Barca is where you go if you want to make any money.

As my buddy always says "All them ticks and no dog? Never gonna happen".

The rest of Spain isn't going to just let their meal ticket leave.

I think within ten years, Spain will be split in three: Spain itself, Catalonia (the Autonomous Communities of Aragon, Baleric Islands, Catalonia, and Valencia), and Euskadi (Euskadi, Navarre and small part of southwestern France). They should have done this after Franco’s passing in the late 1970’s.
