Talking points for President Clinton and the Sheik
Wikileaks ^ | 2011-11-22 | John Podesta

The money quote, from Amitabh Desai:

Unless Sheikh Mo has sent us a $6 million check, this sounds crazy to do.

Context:

Ira Magaziner wrote:

CHAI [Clinton Health Access Initiative] would like to request that President Clinton call Sheik Mohammed to thank him for offering his plane to the conference in Ethiopia and expressing regrets that President Clinton’s schedule does not permit him to attend the conference.

Amitabh Desai responds:

Unless Sheikh Mo has sent us a $6 million check, this sounds crazy to do.

Doug Band responds:

If he doesn't do it Chai will say he didn't give the money bc of wjc

John Podesta responds:

I agree with Doug and this seems rather easy and harmless and not a big time sink.

I would normally write this off as a flippant comment.

But, given what we know about the Clinton Foundation, it sounds like it was expected.

Darn, I missed that. I did a search for it, but it took me a long time to post mine — got interrupted while I was doing it.

I agree that is sounds flippant but also like it’s just an exaggeration of “normal operations”. Wonder if it this “Sheik Mohammed”, the vice president of Dubai?

He certainly has that type money and has the planes.

One of Bill Clinton’s 1968 college classmates at Georgetown University was Prince Turki bin Feisal. Today Prince Turki is the head of the Saudi Arabian intelligence service. The two stay in touch, an Administration official said. (NY Times report Circa 1993)

Just thinking out loud. When you say “6 million”, I go back to WW2 and the Holocaust where at least 6 million Jews were exterminated by the Nazis.

If the Saudis were to give the Clintons 6M in return for some foreign policy influence, I wonder who would be sacrificed again.

I lost a whole European family in the Holocaust so you’ll have to excuse me for being a little twitchy when I see the number 6,000,000. Some of that number were my people.
