Hurricane Matthew: Apocalypse Not Now
American Thinker ^ | October 13, 2016 | Lloyd Marcus

My wife Mary and I live in central Florida. Hurricane Matthew was expected to hit us around 8am Friday morning. Around 5pm Thursday, I decided to pick up a few groceries. It was too late. Every supermarket was closed. Streets were empty. It felt like I was driving on the set of a sci-fi movie.

We lost power 10pm Thursday night. Mid-morning Friday, the worst of the storm had passed us. Thank God we only lost one tree, which missed our house, and one section of our fence.

Mary and I took a ride to assess neighborhood damage. The streets were empty. A picture window was smashed at the corner food mart/gas station. We suspected it was the result of thug damage rather than hurricane damage. We saw three young black guys with their pants below their butts approaching. Accuse me of profiling, but my instincts told me they were up to no good. Sure enough, they spotted the broken window and made a beeline to it. I told Mary to video them with her phone. My foot hovered above the gas pedal for a fast getaway. When the thugs saw Mary shooting them, they wandered away. Mary called the emergency number posted on the store window.

Saturday morning our power came back on, but went out again after a few hours. I immediately went to a big-box hardware store for materials to repair our fence to keep Sammy, our fast-running greyhound, in our background. Our power did not return until late Monday evening.

I have never given much thought to the whole “prepper thing”, survivalists preparing for emergencies and political disruption. But I tell you, folks, witnessing the effect of only a two-day interruption of the public's daily routine has me thinking.

I too live in CFL. We had waves of wind and bands of heavy rain. Florida’s east coast got the worst of it. Governor Scott did a great job in getting the warning out early!

Same here, Seminole County. Prepared. Our power held so we were having a big breakfast early. Surrounding neighbors weren’t as lucky.

Got a few quick power drops/brownouts and lots of wind around 6AM the day Matthew came through—had most of my electronics off just in case. Didn’t actually lose power. Kept fearing it was going to cut across the state and go into the Gulf, thankfully that didn’t happen.

The time to be sure you have all the groceries/supplies you need, and you have a full gas tank, is when you first hear the hurricane is coming. NOT the evening before. The guy seems amazed. I'm amazed at his total cluelessness.

And watch the Clinton News Network? Are you out of your mind? There is no other cable news or news network that can claim that they are fair and balanced, like FNC can.

Agreed: He’s clueless.

The operative root concept of prepping is being prepared.

He failed, but he DID succeed in stealing 3 minutes of my life.

You know I am not a prepper but I just don’t get this raiding all the stores at the last minute, etc. If I dig around in the freezer and cabinets we could eat for at least a month. May not be what we eat every day but we’d be pretty good.

I am in the Savannah area of Georgia.

For the most part, the city is fine, pockets of places with no power, but, Georgia Power and the guys from other states worked VERY hard and we are close to 90% now.

In my neighborhood, it appears that a small tornado went through. There is a where lots of trees are down, and, on either side, not much of anything. They were telling us that it may be weeks before they could get the poles back up to run power, but, when I got home last night, they had just turned it on.

The main problem in the coastal areas was the very high storm surge. The surge hit right at high tide. Where I am, on the Intra-Coastal Waterway, we had a 7 foot tide and a 6 foot surge. Ft. Pulaski, out by the ocean, had a 12 ft surge. We did have one death, not very far from where we live. A tree fell on a house and killed a guy sleeping in his bed. I sort of knew him. Very nice guy.

Things are getting back to normal, but, so much damage to clean up!

I am way ahead of you. To do so, I would have to watch the commie media first and I am not about to do so.
