Global deal reached to limit powerful greenhouse gases(Hurl fest!)

KIGALI, Rwanda (AP) — Nearly 200 nations have reached a deal, announced Saturday morning after all-night negotiations, to limit the use of greenhouse gases far more powerful than carbon dioxide in a major effort to fight climate change.

The talks on hydrofluorocarbons, or HFCs, were called the first test of global will since the historic Paris Agreement to cut carbon emissions was reached last year. HFCs are described as the world's fastest-growing climate pollutant and are used in air conditioners and refrigerators. Experts say cutting them is the fastest way to reduce global warming.

President Barack Obama, in a statement Saturday, called the new deal "an ambitious and far-reaching solution to this looming crisis." The spokesman for U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called it "critically important."

The agreement, unlike the broader Paris one, is legally binding. It caps and reduces the use of HFCs in a gradual process beginning by 2019 with action by developed countries including the United States, the world's second-worst polluter. More than 100 developing countries, including China, the world's top carbon emitter, will start taking action by 2024, when HFC consumption levels should peak

For crap sake. Okay there lyin' king. Do your part and post an executive action ceasing any and all heating and cooling activities to all government agencies. Offices, cars, planes, food storage devices or whatever. No more. Once again:

1. Define the “correct” temperature range for the planet.

2. Define the “correct” humidity range for the planet.

3. Define the “correct” mean sea level for the planet .

4. Define the “correct” amount of precipitation for the planet.

5. Define the “correct” makeup of the atmosphere.

6. Define the “correct” amount of sea ice at the N/S poles.

7. Define/explain past glaciation and subsequent warming without any input from humans.

When Hitlery is pronounced dictator for life, and hailed by the GOP for slaying the Trumpdragon, she will follow along with the “agreements”. It will be just a little while until the USSC rules that these agreements are treaties and have always been treaties. All Presidential directives have the force of law, as do signed agreements, Congress will go along because of a promise of welfare reform in 2024, and a balanced budget in 2050.

The “HFCs” (primarily used as refrigerant gases) were used because of their non-flammable characteristics. They were a replacement for either ammonia or very light (ethane, propane and butane) hydrocarbon gases. Ammonia is a very irritating, and in fact poisonous, gas, which is to some degree flammable, which has very good compressibility and heat transfer properties, but when it leaks, causes all kinds of mischief to human breathing apparatus. The light fractions of liquified petroleum gases are also highly compressible, and like ammonia, can effect a huge amount of heat transfer, but if a leak develops, a very dangerous concentration of highly combustible oxygen-hydrocarbon mixture needs only the least of sparks to ignite with a devastatingly hot flame, a near-explosion.

HFC gases are simply unable to ignite. A sufficiently high temperature, to be sure, could cause the elements that make up the compounds to separate, but that much heat has a lot of other destructive properties, making any chance of combustion highly unlikely, and not a sustainable reaction at all.

Even a massive atmospheric leak of HFC is unlikely to be a long-continuing problem, as the molecular weight is quite high, and it would stratify at the lowest point, not rising very far into the atmosphere. HFC gases are singularly unreactive, and would decompose very slowly, if at all. Perhaps most likely is that the gaseous form would be adsorbed onto clay particles, and rendered harmless.

The capabilities of these molecules to absorb heat and give up that heat energy, which gives them such value as a refrigerant, may trap some heat for a short while, but when the conditions are reversed, it all comes to a zero-sum, as much as is absorbed is given back to the environment. These compounds do NOT concentrate heat energy, they only transfer it from one point to another.

Most of these highly paid “consultants” do not have a very good grasp of either physics or chemistry.

The most important “greenhouse gas” of them all? Water vapor. Vastly more important all by itself than all the other “greenhouse gases” put together.

My father still has about 10 cases of good ol’ harmless R12. It was about 50 cents a pound. When I was a mechanic many moons ago in college we would recharge R12 systems AFTER the ban. We charged $100 per pound. The studies on the harm R12 caused were complete scientific rubbish. It was harmless. One study shows they were trying to measure effects on the soil but the microorganisms in the soil just absorbed and ate it. It is heavier than air but somehow it magically floated in to the Ozone. The other fun fact was “scientists” had no idea what was really happening with the ozone until satellites were launched. They assumed there was a stable even layer surrounding the entire earth. They were wrong. There are naturally occuring holes at the poles but “WE MUST DO SOMETHING” so lets grab money and power.

I also worked most of my life as a mechanic & worked with R12 & then later with R!34 which was supposed to replace the “dangerous” R!2. There was never anything wrong with R12 if used properly & it was inexpensive. I think that was the catch;they weren’t making enough money on R12 & greed set in(like it always does). As far as I could tell,R12 was always a superior refrigerant. Proves that it is always best to keep government out of things they don’t understand.
