Yup—I think the vast majority of [male] politicians engage in this risky behavior. I also think its known and mostly gets swept under the rug unless someone has it out for them.
In the case of Weiner, I think he outlived his usefulness when he didn’t get elected Mayor of NYC. I always wondered about Eliot Spitzer too. His transgressions could have easily overlooked (especially with Obama in power), but were not. My theory is that Hillary saw him as a potential competitor for 2016, so he had to go.

I also agree about weiner. But getting caught sexting with a kid on his lap? That’s a BAD image at any level.

Elliot Spitzer got smashed because he was forcing the NYC Banks to Mark-to-Market their Assets. His scandel broke about 4 weeks before the rule was going to be implemented. After scandel, Mark-to-Market vanished as a subject
