Chicago is beset by gun crimes. Just over the weekend, shootings took the lives of six and wounded 32 more. So far this year, there have been more than 3,550 shootings, nearly 20 percent more than all of last year. To fight this scourge, we need all hands on deck.
So why isn’t the U.S. attorney’s office here, headed by you, Mr. Fardon, doing more to combat gun violence?
In an analysis published in Sunday’s Sun-Times, reporters Mick Dumke, Frank Main and Jon Seidel show that federal weapons charges in Chicago — which you’d think would be soaring upward — have fallen slightly over the past five years. Look to Manhattan, Brooklyn, Milwaukee or Detroit, and you’ll see prosecutors who have charged many more people with weapons offenses than the U.S. attorney’s office in Chicago has.

First, it is not a FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PROBLEM.
It is a local (and cultural) problem.
It is apparent that elected officials in Illinois do not want to fix the problem simply because they refuse to do what the law already allows.
Political correctness kills people.
The Feds are too busy stumbling across dead bodies on DC streets to worry about Chicago.
The DC police chief just cut and ran to a cushy job at the NFL. She knew she couldn’t fix DC.
The problem is local
Democrats promote the weekly murders in order to keep the feral black population within manageable bounds. Dead young black men do not promiscously create babies
Fewer black baby bastards mean more $$’s for pensions
How about fewer laws and tougher enforcement? We don’t need most of the laws we have, as most are directed to law abiding citizens, not criminals.
Y’know, I have set to see a firearm commit a crime on its own.
On the other hand, there is a racial group that commits crimes vastly out proportion to its numbers in society. Maybe the Federales should consider dealing with this group?

It should be noted that the Republican governor of Illinois was asked in August to deploy the Illinois National Guard to those parts of Chicago afflicted with gun violence, but neither he, nor about anyone else wanted him to do so.
And it wasn’t the first time it was suggested.
While the arguments against seem to be that either the Guard soldiers wouldn’t have bullets or would be carrying full automatic rifles, or that headlines around the world would show soldiers on the streets and call Chicago a “War Zone”.
However, Mexico did just that for decades in recent memory. In its cities, at every intersection there was a soldier with his rifle. The police were also there, but with relatively few weapons, mostly dealing with traffic.
And yes, more or less, it worked.
It occurs to me that all of this gun crime talk is easily dismissed. How can there be rampant gun crime if there are no prosecutions?
It’s just like voter fraud, if no is convicted it’s not happening
Chicago doesn’t have a gun problem. It has a feral blacks led by democrats problem.
It is not a gun problem; it is a feral blacks problem.
