On an airplane at 50000 feet that is ten miles up, so too far away from cell towers on the ground, plus the metal plane acts as a Faraday cage blocking almost all cell signal.
Even if the reporter held his phone up against the window, and got a tiny data signal, at 500 mph it would be switching towers every few seconds and would disconnect.
Wifi provided by the plane would have outside antennas picking up Internet from satellites. They turned off the wifi on the plane because they knew this was about to break.

Not true.
The very simple observation is that my cell phone works just fine inside when the plane is sitting on the ground. Cell phone signals have a wavelength a less than 10 inches, they go right through the windows in the plane.
Try it at ten miles up when the cell towers are below, not sideways to the plane.
I’m sitting on a plane now. Taking off soon. Will confirm tonight it likely gets zero bars above 30000 feet.
It all depends on who found the emails.
If the guy who found them did not have experience with classified information, he may well have copied them. If had had experience he would have known that just copying them was also a federal offense, and the fact that the information may have already been disclosed does not make them any less classified, or the penalty any less.

What is really interesting is that they usually "mirror" any device before they try to investigate what is on it, so now there is at least one extra copy. And maybe just maybe there are many if more than one person was working on it at the same time. Storage is super cheap these days, and it is possible they don't really know how many times the devices were mirrored.
And, if the evidence is Hillary giving instructions to destroy evidence, that is not classified. It isn't even part of the Weiner investigation, so there could be lots & lots of copies of that.

Huma used her private email to archive emails from hillary (and for all we know others at state) so much so that some that have been found are completely redacted. Can you say secret (hopefully not SAP).
Given guilty verdicts for Petraous (sp) and other general officers for a single wrong word or access this is a steamship foghorn of treason crimes.
For some she can say 'well, it was my helper and I don't know what she was doing behind my back' but reportedly some are from and to herself so ... buh bye if there is justice left in America.
