Republicans, particularly those of the establishment ilk, cozy with the big donors and other party elites, have been reluctant to join the Donald Trump train. Fearing a landslide defeat on election day, these Republicans felt it in their best political interests to steer far clear of the Trump Titanic so as not to see their political futures dragged to the bottom of the electoral sea.
After sticking their fingers into the political winds, they decided the safer route would be to steer clear of Donald Trump, all in the hopes that come November 9, they could sit atop their high horses and proclaim, See I told you so.
As the political winds shifted this past week, with tightening polls and more talk of a Trump victory than a Clinton landslide, some of the fair weather Republicans are reconsidering their sideline stance, preferring to be on the winning train rather than being left at the station.
Paul Ryan was tap dancing around his partys nominee. At a recent campaign rally, he told voters, "We are going to win everything including the White House." In Lord Voldemort fashion, Ryan never mentioned, "He Who Cannot Be Named", the actual candidate Donald Trump. At least Ryan is on the train, perhaps hanging on rather than seated, but on the train. Like Cruz, Ryan is campaigning with Pence, not with Trump.
Mitch McConnell is the GOP leader most firmly on the Trump train, although he too was late to the station and almost missed the train. Speaking at a recent rally, he told voters, "We need a new president, Donald Trump, to be the most powerful Republican in America."

The funny thing here is, fair-weather RINOs were reluctant to endorse Trump because they were worried about down-ticket issues. Yet, it might turn out that a strong endorsement of Trump would have been their strongest bet. Ironic.
Cruz robo-called me yesterday. NO mention of Trump/Pence...just “be sure to vote”.
They better get on board... Trump is not your traditional Republican and God knows, he may not even be Republican. But he isn’t Hillary, he isn’t corrupt and he is as far from diabolical (the perfect word to describe Hillary) as it gets. I truly think Trump likes people and that people like him. Nobody likes Hillary and she hates everyone. Her finger being on the button is as scary as it gets because when she hates everybody and everybody hates her, and her future is likely a jail cell or impeachment, what is there to stop her from checking out and taking the world with her?
They hate his guts and still want him to lose.
But beta male establishment Republicans are beginning to realize Trump will be the 900 pound gorilla in Washington in January.
And they’re not going to cross him.
That's because them RINOs are exactly that - their minds work like the Democrats that openly say they're left-wing socialist Democrats...they believe the same falsehoods because it fits their own world view.
Indeed
Re: In Lord Voldemort fashion, Ryan never mentioned, “He Who Cannot Be Named”, the actual candidate Donald Trump.
Now that is an apt description and totally appropriate to call Ryan on his treatment of Trump. For those freepers not familiar with the Harry Potter character, Lord Voldemort is evil incarnate. He is so bad that the other characters would not even mention his name. They would refer to him as “He Who Cannot Be Named”.
That Ryan sees Trump as unmentionable is a lot like agreeing with Hillary that Trump, as well as you and I are deplorable and irredeemable.
Mitt-Ryan are the losers in this election.
Beta males in the Republican Party who only know how to lose.
No wonder they can’t stand Trump.
Lip service, yes. Actuality no. Anecdotal evidence state and local GOP apparatus sitting on their hands.
Every RAT at every level is, and has been, out promoting Hilliary!.
The GOP, from the top down, has been noticeably absent for almost the entire campaign season.
A hard rain will fall.
Bolshevik. They feared that Trump would win and put a stop to the Cheap Labor Express and all the GOPe graft and corruption.
“Lip service, yes. Actuality no. Anecdotal evidence state and local GOP apparatus sitting on their hands.”
If Trump wins he will have thousands of appointed positions to fill between November and inauguration day in January. Likely he will fill the top cabinet and agency slots from people he knows but there are thousands of lower level appointments that typically go to establishment figures and hangers on. If Trump punishes the establishment, where is he going to find and vet people, who will enthusiastically support his policies, in just a few weeks time?
If Trump wins, I will grudgingly support Republican candidates for public office in the future. If he loses, I don't think I'll ever give a sh!t about a major election again for the rest of my life.
This is so very true, and we need to start a new batch of folks to take over the reigns from the current RNC
Trump has essentially ran unassisted save Newt, Rudy and thats about it from the political class, well Bob Dole showed up and a couple others but the party has gutted itself.
Its time to replace the current crop of Ryan/McConnel/McCain style elitist republicans with folks that will help Trump put America back on its constitution foundation and secure the blessing of liberty for the next generation.
“A furious electorate of Trump supporters, in the tens of millions, might walk away from the Republican Party entirely, taking their contributions and votes to a third party or they might just stay home come the next election.”
Might???
If Trump loses, the GOP is dead. Millions of us will never vote for another Republican at the national level ever again. What’s the point? The ones we’ve already elected have done nothing but stab us in the back, so why bother installing another batch of back-stabbers just so they can feast on the free caviar and shrimps at all of those posh, elitist D.C. parties? Because that’s all the national GOP is good for: getting re-elected solely to feast at the D.C. hog trough.
The GOP is all but dead.
Its congressional leaders are going to be saddled with a President they did not want.
They made no secret of their preference in wanting to work with Hillary.
With a Trump win, we’re entering into uncharted waters here.
“The funny thing here is, fair-weather RINOs were reluctant to endorse Trump because they were worried about down-ticket issues. Yet, it might turn out that a strong endorsement of Trump would have been their strongest bet. Ironic.”
Shows just how out of touch the GOP is with their rank-and-file voters. Darryl Glenn in Colorado is gonna lose big time because he demonstrated he was a spineless flip-flopper by endorsing and then unendorsing Trump every time the enemedia falsely announced the winds had shifted. Darryl is firmly on-board now, but it was WAY too late, and does not erase his repeated demonstration of spinelessness.
They are all a bunch of sickening sycophants.
