Yes, the current and last governor of AZ are Republicans.
McLame’s mother is 104 and quite healthy so don’t be expecting Juan to be leaving anytime soon.

+2 and I heard something about another Senator who may possibility caucus with Republicans but I’m not sure who that might be.

That was before every Masshole moved there to escape their own miserable state, just like VT.

Yes, but the number of illegals registered to vote this year must have been really high. I saw the ABC affiliate interviewing Latino activists at the Maricopa Sheriff’s Office (where Joe Arpaio was defeated by the Dem Paul Penzone, under the weight of a $2 million donation from Soros) and the activist are elated with Penzone as they will now ‘not have to live in fear’. Penzone will not uphold Fed Immigration Laws. So AZ is on thin ice now......too many non-citizens voting here these days.

What reason is there to believe she would have voted for a conservative justice?

Mainly that the earth has shifted under her feet. And by the force of this logic:
(1) Trump made it very clear in his campaign that he would be appointing conservative justices, like the late Justice Scalia.
(2) Trump won a convincing election.
(3) Therefore it is the will of the people that the Senate confirm a strongly conservative nominee, like Justice Scalia.

I think the Olympia Snowes and Susan Collinses of this world tried to justify their rogue behavior by pretending that conservative nominees were "out of the mainstream" of American opinion. Now it is clear they don't have that excuse any longer.

I’m so sorry about this. It’s a real loss for New Hampshire.

Strange... New Hampshire was once a conservative state.

It probably still is if we didn't have a lot of college students voting here. Look at the town by town results, and you can see where the colleges are located. They are bright blue. NH law makes it easy for college students to vote here.

Also, we had many college students outside of the state suddenly decide to vote absentee this year, instead of voting in other states where the election result was easily known ahead of time.

That said, Ayotte sunk herself. A quick look at the results on a town by town basis shows that she often got less votes than other down ballot Republicans.

I’m not an expert on New Hampshire politics, being located in another, nearby, state - however, what you say makes a lot of sense.

Keep in mind that the Democrats should have won a majority in 2016, based on simple math. There were 34 seats up for election this year -- 24 held by Republicans and 10 held by Democrats. Up until a few months ago it was pretty much conceded that the Democrats would control the Senate after the election, but everything that could have gone wrong for them, did.

In 2018, there will be 33 seats at stake -- 23 held by Democrats, only 8 held by Republicans, and 2 seats (Maine and Vermont) held by independents who caucus with the Democrats. Nine or ten of the 23 Democrat seats are in states won by Trump yesterday (depending on the final outcome in Michigan) -- including Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Wisconsin. The only two GOP seats that look like they might be vulnerable are in Nevada and Arizona.

Regardless of what the historical trends may be, the Democrats will have a very hard time even maintaining their current Senate count after 2018.

I don’t understand why Manchin didn’t switch to GOP a long time ago.

You have much more “leverage” with a member of your own party (even a whacked out liberal member!) then someone of the other party!

(Leverage = committee chairmanship, assignments, etc. and it has always been this way! There never was a “Golden Age” of selfless politics!)

This is where we often shoot ourselves in the foot!
We get “control” of a house of the legislature but because of “purity” desires we won’t do what’s necessary to keep enough members to have votes to actually impose “our will”.
I’ll take 25% of “our will” over zero! Next phase work for 50%, then next phase 75% and so on!

A loss for New Hampshire but a tightening of RINO sphincters. It can be a beautiful thing. Lather, rinse, repeat, and in a few electoral cycles you've got some worthwhile GOP Congresscritters that actually listen to their constituents.

It's like a melanoma. Sure, you can ignore it because to remove it is painful, but in the long run it's beneficial to the body.
