SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Vista, Wednesday claimed victory in his bid for a ninth term against his Democratic challenger, retired Marine Corps Col. Doug Applegate.
Issa had a 3,979-vote lead over Applegate -- 51.1 percent-48.9 percent, according to figures released by the Secretary of State's Office, with mail-in and provisional votes still to be counted.
"As the final ballots are counted, we are confident they will affirm the results from election night," Issa said. "The voters of the 49th District have spoken, and I am grateful for their support in our winning campaign.

wow... i am a bit surprise at this. was looking yesterday at this race and had nearly given up that seat as a disastrous loss.

Figures, Obama favored the white boy over the lebanese-american Issa.
I am so glad! I don’t live in his district, but I do live in the same county. This election season I have given up listening to the radio and watching the local news on TV due to the constant ads running against Issa. I couldn’t stand the ads.
There was some serious, major money dumped into this race to pay for all the advertising. Much more money than could be raised locally by a retired Colonel to pay for a congressional run.
It seemed to me to be the money against Issa was in retaliation against his (ineffectual) Benghazi hearings.
Poor Christina Applegate! Why would Isis hate her???
