Gary Busey played Joe Wheeler, who was a Confederate general during “the Unpleasantness” of 1861-1865. Joe Wheeler sought a commission to command a regiment during the Spanish-American War. During a fight, he got so excited he let slip with one of the more memorable remarks of that war: “We got the damn Yankees on the run!”
