I have been to a fair number of demonstrations, and have noticed the stark difference in the way participants on both sides express themselves through both in-demonstration behavior, and the signs carried to express their point of view.
I took the time to document it a couple of years ago as shown below. I took two pictures, one showing a large gathering of liberals, and one showing a large gathering of conservatives.
Here is an example of what the liberal protesters carry when they want to make a point. This analysis was from the Antiwar protesters at The Gathering of Eagles on March 17, 2007. What you see in this picture is absolutely, 100% TYPICAL.
Here is an example of what the conservative protesters carry when THEY want to make a point. This analysis was from the Taxpayer March on Washington on 9/12/2009. What you see in this picture is absolutely, 100% TYPICAL.
Conservatives not only show wit and originality in the content of the materials they use to express themselves, but also spend time making them both readable and legible. They take pride in their handiwork, and they can do this because they have a deeper understanding of the issue at hand.
Liberals often have mass printed signs that lack originality and wit in an attempt to ensure everyone has a sign (created by someone else) that says something that the "someone else" want them to express. When you see liberals carrying their own handmade signs, they often look like this, poorly lettered and shallow in content:
I have seen this contrast over and over again. What I have concluded from this is that while liberals may have some form of conviction about a subject, it is because they want to believe something they have been told without thinking it through. Most of them have an "understanding" of an issue that is a foot wide and a fraction of an inch deep. They will doggedly stay within that framework regardless of facts and logic, and their expression of that viewpoint in their signs and banners illustrates a lack of depth, understanding and originality.
Well done. Another fact is that as difficult as it is to prove, most if not all liberal protesters were hired through ads in local papers or from increasingly various and sundry websites. I saw this trend back when the first rallies were held against commercial salmon fishermen in WA State in the ‘70s and later during the protests against logging in the Pac NW in the ‘80s.
Conservatives are, as far as I’m aware, all volunteers and are not paid, nor do they get their own lawyers and bail funds if arrested.
Thank you - very well done.
Very interesting..!! Much thanks to you for all that work..!!
Wow - thank you! Great work and great analysis.
Awesome work on these “spontaneous” protests. Everyone here knows these are professional agitprop agents running herd on useful idiots. The FACT that these groups are openly communist doesn’t seem to phase anyone in the current climate—I guess that’s what 50 years of communists running our universities gets us. Every time I see one of these “protests,” these printed signs are everywhere, and not one MSM story ever mentions them. Thank God, people are waking up to the treason, but I fear it won’t last.
In my experience, most Americans have a short attention span and little self discipline. They want a hero to make everything right so they don’t have to worry about it anymore. It’s time for us to stand up and call out the enemy—both the seditious organizations and their protection (AKA the press). It’s so refreshing to see and hear the video bombers. We can disrupt their narrative and we can beat them.
I took part in some TEA Party events in the early days and we showed up, spouted our disagreents with the government in general terms(It was non-partisan in that we felt Republicans were also to blame for going along with or promoting un-traditional Republican ideals) we shared food and drinks and before we left we always cleaned the places up.
Consistently we remarked it would be cleaner than before we showed up and the city really should encourage us to assemble more often, as we saved taxpayers some money on city resources.
Excellent work!
Excellent analysis, RL. Thanks for pinging me to it.
The left can deny it all they want, but these anti-Trump riots are not organic or spontaneous in any way.
I had a similar experience in Tallahassee in 2000.
It was the night that Harris was going to release the official totals of the Florida recount. There were around 250 Freepers, and 3 Gore supporters.
Do you think the report read like this? No. Every reporter (print, TV news, photographer) went to the Gore supporters for an interview. We heckled the reporters. I was even told to keep quite because I was disrupting the interview. The next day, the pictures in the papers and on web sites showed a big crowd with the Gore supporters in front. It looked like a huge Gore crowd (except for my daughter, who slipped in the bottom of one of the pics with her Sore Loserman sign.
Earlier in the evening, 5 bus loads of protestors drove up. They unloaded and were handed pre-printed signs. Leaders told them what to say and they practice their chants prior to moving into the protest area.
Afterwards, they dutifully loaded back into the buses. Total time at the protest? Less than 30 minutes.
Hope you don’t mind, but I saved those images since your analysis is brilliant.
They will doggedly stay within that framework regardless of facts and logic, ...
Which is why I have no interest in confronting or discussing anything with the garden variety liberal.
