Levin has gone all Looney Tunes with his calls for an Article V convention.

He's too intoxicated with the idea to understand that the libs could easily infiltrate the convention and put all kinds of Trojan Horses and Easter Eggs into the works.

The problem is not the Constitution, but that the Republicans let literal traitors infiltrate the Dem party and many institutions, and then infiltrate the GOP (how else to explain Linda Grahamnesty, McCain, Paul Rino, Mitch McCuckold & some others).

Oh, and homosexuals like Foley, the Idaho foot tapping guy, and Hastert.

If the left thought they could win with Constitutional amendments, they’d still be trying it like they did back during the failed ERA push. We have all the advantage in creating and passing amendments now, and more than ever.

Conservatives made the mistake of not pushing for a marriage amendment back when it would’ve easily passed. Now that the court was allowed to legalize same-sex marriage, the public has lost the will to fight it and we could never pass the amendment now.

We need to write our ideals in stone in the Constitution. It’s the hardest place for the left to overturn us. Passing a bunch of laws in the Trump administration won’t mean much when President Corey Booker and the Dems overturn them all as soon as they get in.

Come on Whiskers, you are an old enough hand around here did know that is nonsense. Republicans now control 66 of 99 state legislatures and it requires only 17 to stop any "Trojan horse" or "Easter egg."

Levin has learned enough through working inside the Reagan administration and he is smart enough to know that Trump's conservative bona fides are at least questionable and certainly of recent vintage but the real problem is that, not Superman, not any of the 11 apostles, even were any of them to come back as President of the United States, and certainly not Trump, could undo the century long slide into progressivism which has barnacled the Constitution.

We need structural reform not a personality cult.

Mindless dismissal of the constitutionally mandated method of reforming the Constitution in favor of a new Messiah is to guarantee that reforms will be frustrated and those few which are enacted will be undermined. You need structural, that is permanent, reform. It is unfair to Donald Trump to saddle him with expectations no man, not even Ronald Reaganin is time, could fulfill.

Gray whiskers: My children claim I am losing half a step as I age and my last reply to you confirms their diagnosis. I misspoke, it's not 17 but only 13 legislatures of 99 which are required to stop a proposed amendment to the Constitution and it's not 66 but 69 legislatures which Republicans now control. Indeed, that supermajority might have increased since this last election.

Not trusting my memory anymore, I repeat a reply that lays the matter out:

There are 99 houses in 50 state legislatures. Any leftist amendment would require only 13 of these legislative bodies from 99 to defeat ratification. In other words, three quarters of the state legislatures must ratify or 38 states. If 13 legislatures fail to ratify the amendment is defeated. Since ratification by legislatures requires both houses to consent, only 13/99 are required. That is very close to 13%.

After the last election Republicans control 69 houses of the 99 state legislative houses. Republicans control 31 of the 50 state legislatures. To stop any unwise or imprudent amendment would require only 13 of these 69 Statehouses (from different states) or about 19%, fewer than one in five.

The problem will not be to stop left-wing amendments but to pass prudent conservative amendments which restore the Constitution by invoking the Constitution.

If the Congress of the United States elects to have the ratification procedures conducted by conventions rather than legislatures, the method of selecting the delegates to those conventions would be chosen by the legislatures. If only 13 legislative bodies out of 99 object to the method chosen by the other body because it is considered to favor a leftist amendment, there is no ratification forthcoming from that state.

By either procedure the odds of a liberal amendment getting past so many conservative legislative bodies in so many states is both arithmetically and practically remote.

Finally, this is only the last line of defense, there are innumerable redundant steps along the way which make a "runaway convention" virtually impossible and render the need for the states to fail to ratify very likely superfluous.

Levin has shown himself to be an un-serious person in this election.

The Article V convention is one the worst ideas I’ve ever heard. It would see the Constitution swept away by the left and replaced with something written by a combination of Wall Street, BLM, radical feminism, LGBT lobby, CAIR, and a thousand other dangerous wack jobs.

When Levin’s convention got done animals would have more rights than we would.
