A man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for killing his daughter’s sexual abuser. Jay Maynor, 43, of Cullman, Alabama, took the lengthy prison time as part of plea deal so Julia, 24, didn’t have to testify in court. The mother of three was molested by her maternal grandfather Raymond Brooks multiple times between the ages of 4 and 9.

Should have taken it to a jury. Temporary insanity or something.

He didn’t want his daughter to have to testify at a trail.

Hero dad. He didn’t have a right to kill his father in law and should not have done so, but I can understand his desire to get closure for his daughter by doing so. Taking the sentence to protect his daughter was just flat heroic.

If I was governor I would commute his sentence after 7 years.

Legally, maybe he did not, but morally is another story.
He just needed a better plan.

He waited something like 12 years before taking him out, too long for temporary insanity.

I really don't have much to say good about all the scumbags who blame the father here INSTEAD of the pervert sentencing judge.

And honestly, there is no way to condemn the father here Unless your primary goal is for child rapists to only get a slap on the wrist.

IF I recall correctly, I don’t think the insanity defense works very often. It used to, in the past. But there was a big stink after John Hinckley successfully used it and laws were changed to make it more difficult for it to fly.

...........I think that when a grown man rapes a child and is caught and convicted that the punishment should be he is turned over to the father or grandfather for a private burial. Everybody else just butt the f out!

If he had done it right at the time of the offense, lots of people would be sympathetic, waiting 12 years takes it way out of temporary.

More like 14 years or more, since the Grandfather pled guilty in 2002.
The story at the Daily Mail has more, including this:
“On the way to Brooks’ home, Maynor also fired his gun into a convenience store when he spotted a man who had been dating his stepdaughter and allegedly abused her.
The man was able to hide and was unharmed. Ms Maynor’s father was sentenced to 20 years for attempted murder in that particular shooting.”
