Doesn’t Betty De Vos support COMMON CORE?
Sounds good.
Teachers unions will not like this.
DeVos, 58, is a champion of school choice and charter schools.
That’s the Amway...
Breitbart excerpt....appears she’s a supporter of Common Core.
Shane Vander Hart, however, writes at Truth in American Education that Molly Hensley-Clanceys report at Buzzfeed that DeVos is an opponent of Common Core is less than accurate.
Yes she is very much part of the Republican education establishment, but where Hensley-Clancey got the idea that she proclaimed herself an opponent of the Common Core education initiative is beyond me, Vander Hart writes. Betsy DeVos through the Great Lakes Education Project (GLEP) and Michigan Freedom Fund tried to influence Michigans Republican primaries.
Karen Braun who heads up Stop Common Core in Michigan wrote:
GLEP is a strong supporter of the Common Core and its continued implementation in Michigan. They are part of the Michigan Coalition for High Student Standards which opposes SB 826 to Repeal and Replace Common Core, science, social studies, and aligned assessments with pre-common core Massachusetts standards. Stop Common Core in Michigan believes there is a high correlation between candidates who accept the GLEP endorsement and their future votes on legislation.
GLEP claims NOT to have a litmus test on Common Core. This allows candidates to say they are against common core and still gain the endorsement of GLEP. But DeVos is a champion for school choice while at the same time continuing the implementation of common national standards. The DeVos definition of school choice is the freedom to choose which common core school will track your child from cradle-to-career (P20). All Michigan charters must use common national standards. Thats NOT true choice.
Like Bill Gates, Betsy DeVos has some money and has some things shed like to see different. Like all good investors, DeVos likely expects a return on her investment. And if you dont play the game under their rules and vote the way you want her to vote, you may find yourself challenged the next time you run for office.
Amway family?
Is she from the DeVos family who started Amway? If so, she’s good people. One of the male DeVoses was involved in Conservative Christian and Patriotic activities around the Country. Friends of Jerry Falwell, Sr., etc.
Trump must have his reasons, and I hope he explains them. Common Core is the worst gobblygook to hit the educational system.
Its time the books be re-written and a conservative common core be administerd across the country.... Shove it down there throughts
She’s pro-charter advocate. Waiting for the teachers’ unions to explode.
Popcorn...
Uncle Miltie approves.
payback for carrying Michigan. The DeVos's are big playa's.
Yes they are pro Common Core and yes it was even in the Charter Schools of which they were fond of and or were the funding behind ( Do your homework ) them, don't ask me how I know, don't get me started....
Don’t know this woman.

Definitely a political payoff. She’s essentially the Republican Party gatekeeper for the state of Michigan. No one runs as a Republican for statewide political office without her blessing.
I'm calling it a very bad pick. She's pro-Common Core. She was appointed by W. to the board of directors of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. We need to defund the arts and CC stricken from our schools.
The correct answer is - eliminate the Dept of Education
Not a good pick. What is school choice? The right to send your kid to any school you want. OK, take it from a veteran educator as to how this works. Lowlife ghetto thug students foul their own nest by committing acts of school violence, having lousy attendance records, cutting classes, disrupting what classes they do attend, and doing little to no work for these classes. A school full of this kind of student will be a failing school, no matter what caliber of teacher is there. So the parents of these students don’t want their kid in a “failing school”, even if they had a hand in making it so. They get the kid admitted to a school which is still functioning well. You get enough of these kind of students transferring to this new school and guess what? They turn it into a crap hole like they just left. They have no idea of how one properly conducts oneself in school, how to effectively participate in class, how to have respect for teachers, how to seek help in subjects giving them trouble, etc. Moreover, they intimidate the original students in the new school and basically take over, turning the new school into a ghetto school. Naive optimists are thinking, “Oh, being around good students will turn these poor students into good students by example.” Nope. It always goes the other way. Formerly well-behaved students start mouthing off and otherwise imitating their new classmates, and that’s the end of that school.
I’m homeschooled and wish everyone could be.
Don’t know about this pick, but...if it’s a bad one, I’m willing to forgive it, seeing as Trump has spared us a Clinton presidency.
I never did expect he would be hard right on everything. He doesn’t have to be. Just steer the ship away from the reef and we can work on everything else.
How about the Dept of Education be abolished.
