Really, just someone in a bully pulpit to convince local boards to institute phonics (as opposed to “whole word” or “blended”) reading pedagogy would be a huge step that would help young children instantly.
And it would sidestep the vouchers debate.
The ONLY thing the NEA is for is advancing teachers pay and prstige...
