How about american teenagers put down their video games and work after school. How about schools let Seniors get school credit for working half day or 1 day a week or pay higher wages so americans will do the work.

I’ve always believed that schools should worry less about extra-curricular and more about students building a genuine work history. If students could earn credit by working at a job or running their own business, I am certain that there would be less special snowflakes.

They are too busy with their phones and music.

So glad I didn’t grow up with a phone attached to my body every waking moment.

Decades ago, at least in my area, the workers in fast food and some other minimum wage type work, were teens and young adults.

Now, just anecdotal evidence, is that many such jobs are filled by adults, middle aged and older. And, a number of these workers were not born in this country. Can’t speak to their immigration status, just an observation they were from another country. American born teens are a distinct minority in these types of jobs, at least in my area.

Back in the day, when you didn’t have to pay 16 year olds 15 bucks an hour, you could hire a bunch of them to do all kinds of menial tasks at a variety of businesses. But now since you cant afford to hire 5 kids with no skills and an unknown dependability at a few dollars each to do a whole bunch of tasks, where if one cant show up for work for whatever reason it really does not present a burden. But at 15 bucks or more an hour, they need to be able to do a lot more, and be a hell of a lot more dependable, with fewer employees it is a way bigger deal if one cant show up for some reason.

So who would you hire for $15. Who is more likely to be reliable? A pimply faced kid, or a mother of two that needs a paycheck to feed her kids?

My high school gave credit for one hour a day if you had an after school job.

I loved getting out an hour early on those days I didn’t have to work.

My first job while in high school was construction. I didn't work during the school year, but during the summers off from school.
