Kellyanne Conway on Prospect of Romney as Secretary of State: 'I'm a Concerned Citizen'

Making the rounds on the Sunday news shows, Kellyanne Conway said she has concerns about Mitt Romney as secretary of state, but added that if that’s who President-elect Trump chooses, she will support his decision “1,000 percent.”

“I’m a concerned citizen,” she told NBC’s Chuck Todd when asked if she was “campaigning against Mitt Romney as secretary of state.”

Conway assured Todd she was not “campaigning” against the former GOP nominee and wasn’t trying to “make the news.”

“People feel betrayed to think that Gov. Romney, who went out of his way to question the character and the intellect and the integrity of Donald Trump now our president-elect would be given the most significant cabinet post of all,” she said. “That’s a decision that one man can make, President-Elect Trump. I will respect it. And I will support it 1,000%. But I’m reflecting what the grassroots are saying. They feel — they feel a bit betrayed to think you can get a Romney back in there after everything he did. We don’t know if he voted for Donald Trump. He and his consultants were nothing but awful to Donald Trump for a year."

Conway later said on CNN’s “State of the Union” that she’s a big proponent of party unity but that doesn’t mean “we have to pay for that with the secretary of state position.”

Those supporting Trump, did so to reverse the type of politics that Mittens endorses! Would be a slap in the face of all of us if Romney is named!

She’s a smart girl. She knows his record. Trump needs to listen to her.

He's not a fighter. He would let other nations run afoul of their obligations and the current international political situation would disintegrate further plus who would want someone in their cabinet who said horrible things about you just 8 months earlier? Really is thusly the best Trump can do? I hope not...

Trump gave Mitt a chance to clear the air regarding his previous slanderous attack on Trump. And doing so made Trump look magnanimous and temporarily deflated the never-Trumpers.

Mitt, however, did not apologize or explain his previous bad behavior. He had his chance and he blew it.

This was the upshot of Kellyanne statement yesterday (she was speaking for herself and Trump).

Mitt had the chance to prove he is a man of honor...but still refused.

Buh, bye, Mitt.

DJT should dig a bit deeper into “who it was” that re-released the nude photos of his wife.

I think we would see some Romney/Romney-related “fingerprints” on that.

It is not up to you who Donald Trump chooses as Secretary of Defense. Hopefully he will chose someone else, but you should respect his decision.

I believe she decided to "come out" is because so many concern trolls and LSM rumors coincided as folks read a lot of tea leaves to try to comprehend his meeting with Mittens.

The way I see it, Trump's campaign folks do almost nothing without purpose for his agenda and this was a way for him to let Romney know that disloyalty has consequences.

I may be wrong, but I trust Trump's judgement and if he were to opt to use Romney for something, the ground rules would be firmly set and it would be to move his agenda forward. Trump isn't as naive as the concern trolls seem to think or he wouldn't be where he is right now (or through the building of his business empire.

I just hope that Trump will appoint someone else. Then at a press conference he will asked why he didn’t pick Romney. He can say because he learned it was Romney who released the pics of Melaiana.

I respect everything he's done so far. But I don't have to respect or like his decision. There may be another reason but I won't broadcast it here.

Romney is a rascal! He is just as bad as his daddy was. I can barely think of him without a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. Ugggggh...

But Trump is a shrewd administrator. I doubt that this is just a trial balloon. Trump is also completely guileless and cannot carry a grudge as far as the end of the driveway. There is no way he is manipulating Romney into some kind of humiliation. So, what is the president-elect thinking?

I keep wondering what Romney might be like in dealing with Germany, Sweden, and other “socialist allies”. I have to admit that he would do a good job with them and lead them to the same kind of resigned accommodation to Trump that he has himself adopted.

He represents a significant constituency all over the country, and this might get those people into the program.

He would be out of the country most of the time, and he would conscientiously implement Trump's policies. He is nothing if not a loyal employee, and anyway Trump will have no problem managing him.

He was almost president you know, and when he sits down with Putin, or Kim Jong, or the Ayatollah they will treat him with deference and understand that he is speaking for our whole country. They did so with Hillary, because they thought that she was going to be president. Anybody that I would approve of is not going to be respected on the world stage. Furthermore, Romney is better in every way than almost every head of state in Europe or Asia.

When Honest Abe took office, he filled his government with people who had fought the hardest against him, not for the reason you think, but because he had a war on his hands and he needed fighters who would fight. If Trump does the same, I am good with it.

I think Kellyanne is acting on Trumps order. Maybe it's a trial balloon.

I can see why Trump would be interested in Mittens.
If you consider that both men are successful businessmen and take a businessman's approach.
Politicians always see issues from a political point of view. Warriors strategize in terms of battles. Religious leaders view the world through a religious prism. Diplomats will be diplomats.

I think Trump is viewing the SOS position as having great economic potential. Sort of a super secretary of commerce.
Instead of having a Kerry type out there negotiating global warming treaties or giving away the farm to our enemies we could have an economics minder businessman uncovering opportunities. There could be lower level bureaucrats doing the diplomatic two step. Diplomacy is mostly directed out of the White House anyway.
