I think I’m better off just not reading these cabinet announcements...

She is definitely part of the swamp. As Sec.of Labor under Bush she tried to screw with people’s Overtime. This is NOT good news.
To: Maine Mariner
This choice doesn’t have everyone at FR against it..so that is something.
Romney , on the other hand, will have massive opposition.
But we don’t count.

Here's my take from the thread that was posted just before this one ...
She was a Deputy Secretary of Transportation under the first President Bush, so this nomination isn't outlandish. I'm less concerned about her spouse than I am about her long tenure inside the Beltway -- but I'm impressed that Trump hired an MBA for this role instead of a lawyer or a career politician.
I work on major transportation projects myself, and Chao's nomination reinforces some very interesting rumors I'm hearing around the industry about Trump's agenda for the nation's infrastructure. It sounds like Wall Street and innovative financing arrangements are going to play an enormous role in his infrastructure investment plan.

Should not be a cabinet position anyway ... Ignore it. Better yet, kill it administratively.
But yes, this does “feed the (Senate) pig”. Again.

What track record does Chao have that makes you think she’s a RINO? I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but she’s never held elected office and has worked for some very conservative think tanks in D.C.

Unfortunately, Trump won't be able to accomplish anything as President if Democrats and establishment Republicans (about 80-90% of the GOP) in Congress form a united front against him, as they would do if all of his cabinet selections were along the lines of General Flynn or Steve Bannon. He needs to get at least a majority of the Paul Ryan/Mitch McConnell wing of the party on his side, which is why his cabinet picks alternate between the sort of people we would like to see and the sort of people that Paul Ryan likes to see.
Not an ideal situation, but it's realpolitik - making the best of a usually bad situation.

This one kills a few birds with one stone: Asian, female, McConnell’s beard, etc. LOL.
