Looks like Trump took Number 8 from Column B.
I would assume he is trying to “curry” favor with McConnell by picking his wife. Now maybe McConnell will bend on the filibuster.
I work in Logistics, DOT has been out of control under O. Sound like Chao is just want we need at DOT.
So how about we base our thinking going forward on facts rather then continue to cling to hurt feelings left over from the Primaries?
Now that was funny!
She does less trouble to Sino-American relations at Labor than she would at State, INS or Commerce. She can be a fig leaf to the Chinese without doing anything in particular for them. Hey, it’s a game they like to play with foreigners so maybe we can play too.
There are a lot of things to like about Elaine Chao.
But her close relationships and support for the highest level communist Chinese authorities is a disqualifier for any cabinet position, in my opinion.
I thought this when she was Bush Labor Secretary and still think it.
Thank you: my favorite choice at Chinese restaurants.
Usually Budda’s Feast.
Very discouraging.
“This pick is troubling”
This pick is political. Mitch McConnell recently commented that the Senate was unlikely to take up infrastructure bills. So now Trump appoints Mitch’s wife and she is onboard with rebuilding infrastructure.
yeah- I think you got that right-
Trump is an outsider- and will unfortunately have to bend-
Trump needs to start helping the TEA party when he gets settled- and start targeting the rino’s and demonrats-
(hope he gets his first wish—TERM LIMITS!)
It’s not exactly Drain the Swamp, is it.
So how about we base our thinking going forward on facts rather then continue to cling to hurt feelings left over from the Primaries?

How quaint! Become fact based? Actually, Mrs. Submareener was high enough up in the DOL hierarchy to be among the dozen or so who were invited to Elaine Chao’s dedication of the 9/11 memorial at the DOL HQ in Washington, DC. She also had lunch with her several times.
Mrs. Submareener is an extremely good judge of character, so when she says Elaine Chao is “good people”, it is good enough for me.
Building a wall around the swamp ...
These comments are disturbing.
didn’t Trump run against China and its trade policies? (Not to mention human rights.)
Nor did he say he would bring in Bush Cabinet members to his admin.
I like all the picks compared to what Hillary would have picked.
Way better.
Yet, objectively, this is a Cabinet that Jeb Bush also would have picked, for the most part.
That is of course way better and preferred to anything Hillary would do.
But it’s not really what Trump made it sound like he’d do.
Elaine Chao is the only one that really bothers me.
I’m not jumping up and down about a couple of his picks, but overall, it’s not bad so far.
I think we’re going to see much more of this. Trump is a deal maker and his goal is to tie the hands of his potential opponents by putting some of them inside the tent. It’s a very risky strategy. One or two appointments can be forgiven if the most significant cabinet seats are given to people who truly want to reverse the mess Obama created. But if we start to see a flood of former Bush staffers and Romney-bots, it’s going to be very difficult to sell to the people who elected Trump.
