It is only now that the population has tech with which to communicate widely, constantly and quickly enough to protect ourselves from the emotional/psychological predators that flock to ‘journalism’ like thieves flock to politics.
You nailed it. I recall trying to figure out what war Rather and his contemporaries were talking about. What they “reported” bore absolutely no resemblance to the war I was involved in while in Viet Nam

Well and truly said. A news media gone bad is an extremely dangerous enemy of the very people who unwittingly rely upon it for truthful information about what’s happening in the world. Most news seekers are so enthralled by the professional aura of the media pundits that they are incapable of believing that much of what they’re being told is distorted, misleading, and untrue.
