Oakland Fire Department’s troubled building inspection effort
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | December 6, 2016 | Matier & Ross

Two years before the deadly Ghost Ship warehouse fire, the Alameda County civil grand jury sounded the alarm about deficiencies in the Oakland Fire Department’s inspection bureau — saying the city wasn’t even trying to check a third of the 12,000 commercial properties that were supposed to be examined every year.

It’s a question Oakland officials have yet to answer. The city has promised to release inspection records from the property, but hadn’t done so as of Tuesday.

Fire Chief Teresa Deloach Reed did not respond this week to our requests for comment on how her department reacted to the grand jury report.

Here in Atlanta, the mayor fired the very competent black fire chief because he is a Christian.

Has this diverse chief won anything or served on anything that is not specifically one color?

Chief Reed has received many (well, not MANY, but three) awards during her professional career, including the NAACP Henry Gage Senior “Excellence in Leadership” Award for being black, the IABPFF Black Chief Officers Committee “Metro Lifetime Achievement” Award for being black and the Martin Luther King Association’s “Public Safety and Service” Award for being black.

Chief Reed serves on the Black Chief Officers Committee of the International Association of Black Professional Firefighters on the California Fire Chiefs’ Black Cultural Diversity Committee and is an active member of the International Association of Black Fire Chiefs.

And you are racist if you criticize her judgment or performance.

Heros. Everyone one of them...

Nonetheless, the source said, they chose to not bolster their fee-collecting efforts because that might divert money needed to retain firefighters.

“They didn’t seem to understand their mission — their mission seemed to be to keep (firefighters’) jobs,” the source said

In other words an Affirmative Action hire who is unqualified for the job and in way over her head. She has a lot to answer for in this disaster, and the lefties can’t blame any Republican for this mess.

From the article:

"However, firefighters say the local stations generally steer clear of politically sensitive places like the arts-centered Ghost Ship — leaving them to be handled by inspectors in the overworked fire prevention bureau."
I leave you to contemplate how an artists' space could be a "politically sensitive place."

Ahem, Nancy Pelosi specifically said the ObamaCare would leave people free to be artiste's, without worrying about health...

"Artists" became a politically protected class.

So what if it led to a few burns between useful idiot voters and idiot politicians?

Teresa Deloach-Reed: First African-American Woman Fire Chief

Oakland makes history by giving her control of the Oakland Fire Department

Oakland makes history by giving her control of the Oakland Fire Department

According to Reuters, there’s history being made in the streets of Oakland, California. The city, which has been going through racial strife of its own, announced last week the hiring of Teresa Deloach-Reed to the Oakland Fire Department. The 53-year-old becomes the first African-American woman to serve as the fire chief of a major metropolitan area. She is scheduled to take control of the Oakland Fire Department in March, where she’ll be leading a group of 580 civil servants.

As Jay-Z says, “Numbers don’t lie,” and the statistics aren’t exactly first rate when it comes to Black women extinguishing fires outside of the home. As of 2010, less than 4 percent of U.S. firefighters were women, and just over 6 percent were black, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. “There are still a lot of departments that don’t have any women,” Deloach-Reed said in a telephone interview with Reuters. “We still have a long way to go in regards to breaking down the doors.”

We here at EBONY wish Teresa Deloach-Reed much success and many blessings in her new position. But, we must ask, does her appointment mean more opportunities for African-Americans in other cities? Or, is the progressive metropolis just ahead of the curve?

1.) Never trust anyone who is so self-important that they have to use their middle name. (Think lawyers and judges here too)

2.) Those who died in this fire didn’t perish because of their skin color. All of these “Black Leadership” awards are a crock of $hit!

I don’t care if this woman is sky blue pink, she’s a failure as a Fire Chief, too busy “being Black” to do her job. She should, and probably will be fired, and the Black Community “amen chorus” is tuning up to fight her departure.

MRS. GREY: His Honor intends to broaden the areas of participation for women in the police force.

HARRY CALLAHAN: Well that sounds very stylish.
