NYT, via MSN, is doubling-down: "How Moscow aimed a perfect weapon at US election"

Here's the chronology of the past few years:

Bush II imposes new policies to counter growing Russian threat.

Candidate Mitt Romney claims Russia is emerging as possibly our greatest threat; Obama laughs in his face.

Obama/Clinton present Russians with symbolic, mis-translated "reset-button" suggesting that Bush's policy was one big, stupid mistake, and now we're friends with Russia, rational beings moving beyond Bush's stupidity. Media ignore embarrassing gaffe.

Russia initiates military adventures threatening Crimea, Ukraine and Eastern Europe; Obama dithers and "leads from behind." Syria degenerates into chaos.

Hillary loses election; Trump's victory attributed to Russian interference in election. Obama's failed overtures to Russia are forgotten, and Russia is once again our biggest enemy.

This is all so weird.

For me the first dismay was when all of a sudden the Afghan hero, President Hamed Karzai was suddenly and viciously labeled a dictator and terrorist. I was like, this is odd. Then came the odd claim that most of the weapons being used in the Mexican drug wars were purchased in the USA. Then that was outed as being gunwalking. I believe enough shite went down in the last eight years to keep historians busy for centuries.
