I thought Trump already has agreed to do this without be told to or forced to?

That's what I heard ... this is just BS from the 'rats ...

"Where in the bill does it exempt senators?"

I didn't read the bill but relied on the article which specifically says:

"The legislation would require incoming first lady Melania Trump, Vice President-elect Mike Pence, his wife, Karen Pence, and Trump's youngest son, Barron, to shed any financial assets that would pose a conflict of interest and place them into a blind trust."

An exemption isn't necessary if the bill only applies to specified offices.

Smells like a bill of attainder to me.

Exactly. They need to apply it to everyone in the executive, legislative and judicial branches. Harry Reid would not like that. He made a fortune as a "civil servant."

I think they did the same thing to Cheney. Cheney divested himself of his pharmaceutical stock, and then when the stock dropped later, they were mad at Cheney for not suffering a paper loss at their behest.

What the leftist media doesn’t get is that Trump has all the wealth he ever wanted and has no need or interest in trying to leverage his power as president to simply make more money. If that was his goal he never would have run for president in the first place and taken the hit to his lifestle and privacy. Trump is a great self-made man and not some political grifter like Clinton who’s only reason for gaining power was to peddle her influence via the Clinton Foundation scam.

So let me get this straight. They are going to submit legislation, and expect both the House and Senate to vote on it...

That is not how Democrat-minority bills work, which is something the Republicans never learned to do themselves.

Democrats force an amendment or bill they know won't pass to a vote, and then when Republicans vote against it the Democrats have now created a "campaign issue" to run on during the next election. They can go back to their voters and say "See how Congressman X voted to let Trump profit from the Presidency? We don't need people like Congressman X in Washington!"

Why would any sane person vote for this. Trump does not have to do this. No president or VP have had to do this.

It seems like we have people in office who probably couldn’t pass a simple HS Civic Test.

I saw an article by Peggy Noonan that said he must by law. NOT TRUE!!!

Leni and all: Can anyone find what you think might be the earliest I said on FR that Trump would win the general election? Need a citation for the book. Thanks!

They wouldn't, and that's the point.

Ted Kennedy, Chuck Schumer, and Harry Reid used to do this routinely to get Republicans to vote against these fake bills, only so they can create a fake issue to campaign on later back home.

***more theater of the absurd***

LOL! Already they hope to build a case for impeachment! Har har har!

Here's a question for all you billionaires out there: How do billionaires divest themselves of all conflicts of interest without becoming paupers? Of course the Democraps want Trump to realize he must withdraw from the Presidency and retire to solitude. LOL! Har har har har har har

These are people who have the highest integrity.

HIGHEST dumm as a rock quotient, is more like it.

I used to post a suggestion that as qualification to be eligible to run for High Federal Office, candidates must first take a test on the Constitution, The Declaration of Independence, and the Federalist papers.
And I don't mean the bonehead multiple choice joke test currently used for citizenship.

The passing grade would be 60% and that same percentage of failures can be expected; 80% for subgroups that must remain nameless.

Oddly there currently is legislation on the books that prohibits this for government officials EXCEPT THE PRESIDENT. Reason probably being, legislators did not want to discourage top Presidential candidates from attaining the post knowing they'd have to divest of everything.

DjT has plans to remove himself from his business, but now with this I'd tell 'em to stuff it and go with existing law. Screw 'em.

I just started looking, but here is an early reference. Not the absolute statement, but a strong hint.

12/15/2015: Third, I don't anymore think most of Carson's voters (yet) will go to Trump. They will eventually. For now about 75% will hang with Cruz. But if and when they finally move, Trump will be very hard to beat in the general election.

I'm still looking for the definitive statement.

Here is a post from 9/23/16:

I thought so, and I’ve thought so about FL for a while, OH now-—but only in last two weeks. IA too. Honestly, he’s at 270 now, maybe 271-2, something like that if CO is on board.

I think he’ll take NM and probably either PA or MI and possibly both.

The DNC provides the media with the material the media uses to write the stories the DNC orders them to present.
