I would like 5 BILLION to study the effects of "winning & losing" at gambling. /s

Oh yeah... keep in mind my gambling study will go on and on and never really conclude anything concrete.

So yes, I will need another 5 Billion next year to keep study those gambling effects.

Thankfully TRUMP is about to turn over this "climate change" feeding trough and all the money going down that rat hole.

He spearhead an effort, with the support of the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Toronto, to let scientists move their data onto publicly available non-government servers. The project, called “DataRefuge,” is intended to eliminate the chances of political interference with the data, he said.

How about publicly publishing digitally signed raw data of all of the weather readings and algorithms used to weight and process them? One of the big weaknesses in their arguments was Mann refusing to turn over any raw data or how he processed it, it contradiction to generally accepted best scientific practices. "The dog ate my data" is a load of crap. Let everyone see the data and the government cannot hide or modify it, if that is your real fear. Or maybe general release of the data outside of the control of the scientific priesthood is itself a threat to your funding.

from Eisenhower's Farewell Address:

Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been overshadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers. The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present -- and is gravely to be regarded.

Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.

Oops, upon rereading I switched between “their” and “your” pretty sloppily. All references are pokes at the scientists, not at fellow Freepers.

I might be a Snow Bird in the future. I’ve lived here most of my life, so this is what ‘normal’ is to me.

Wish you could see out my window right now. Tons of beautiful birds at the feeders, snow falling gently, the evergreens coated in snow. Really pretty. I’d hate to miss days like today.

But what they’re predicting for tomorrow? Yikes! :)

Yes the falling snow is a beautiful site. Even I have to agree, it's dealing with it afterwards that is the pain. Especially if you have to commute. In Virginia it would warm up just enough to start melting and then get back below freezing and the roads get all slick for the commute. Which in turn caused accidents and then major delays commuting. Then the sides of the road become blackened by the tires which then mucks up the cars, inside & out.

When I was younger I enjoyed the outdoor fun to be had, and the cold hardly affected me. But age takes its toll and changes opinions. 8>)

Not nearly as cold here as where you are-but there is a norther arriving early tomorrow and it will be in the low 20’s Sunday night-but no snow predicted. It will be back into the 50’s during the day by mid-week, and 60-65 is about as balmy as it will get until well into February, with some snow days, if this is a typical winter-no global warming here...

I’ve lived in much colder places when my 1st husband was in the military-and done winter holidays in Quebec with MrT5’s relatives, and I like snow-I thought about moving to Alaska a few years ago, but decided winters there are too dark, never mind 30 below for 6 months-my family has been here for well over 200 years-might as well stay...

I can take the cold, but it needs to be interspersed with some SUNNY days, in-between. I think that total-darkness stuff would get to me, for sure!

Same here-I don’t care whether the rain or the snow is keeping the clouds over the sun-I need to see it every couple of weeks, at least. MrT5 was from Seattle-was interested in going back there to live and work after he retired from the military-I told him we would be at an impasse-this Texas woman was not going to live where it is so rainy and gloomy all year that every other person has seasonal affective disorder and the suicide rate is one of the highest around-just listen to Nirvana’s music (which I do like anyway)-I won that round and we stayed here...

“Climate scientists worried that President-elect Donald Trump will slash their budgets and sideline their research.”

If the science is settled then why do we need to fund more research?

That’s the reason they are worried, they don’t want to lose the money. And they think they can fool the Trump administration by changing a word, typical liberals.

Here in Texas, we have four seasons in one day! It’s 80 degrees right now and tonight will get down to 18.

Blacklist the ideologues from further funding, and repurpose the rest.

Anyone in the field has been under Stalinist pressure for years to tow the party line. No doubt many would be happy to do honest research, if they thought it was safe to do so.

It won’t be safe for honest researchers on day one however, but over time more will make the leap. Government money has largely created and sustained this fraud.

Defund the Left across the board, and replace their apparatchiks with objective scientists and administrators.
Make America Great Again!

Almost $100 billion later and still no evidence for man-made climate change. Guess you can’t buy everything.

I’m going to be beside myself with delight when I see those ass**** scam artists posing as scientists lose their funding-they aren’t fooling anyone who doesn’t live in Lala land anymore-their weeping and howling are well deserved and a beautiful thing to see...

It is 72 here, but 30 is predicted for tonight-not supposed to be in the low 20’s until Sunday night-winter has arrived-and it has been getting a little colder in winter for at least 15 years-and we did not see snow here every winter in the late 90’s like we do now...

I’ve already dragged out fleece-lined tights and my hunting coat-a down filled, hooded parka-I’ll need it if I want to go down to the hiking trails tomorrow...

I’m about ready to bundle up and do Barn Chores for the afternoon. Nine adult hunting dogs (who each have their own Dog Condo), seven puppies, one mule, two barn cats and three raccoon all need water and food, whether it’s snowing on me or not.

This afternoon will be a Cake Walk compared to what is supposed to be coming tomorrow; -3 for a temp with -30 wind chills. Brrrr!

Extra water and rations for all critters and a double Martini for Mommy when she’s done! :)

Beau is in town making $$ plowing snow, today. It’s going to be a long day/night for him. :(

It is beyond me to understand how even the most out of touch person can parrot that global warming/climate change crap-either they never spend any time outdoors or they pay no attention to the weather when they do-it is surreal...

I harvested the last of the veggies and the herbs that can’t take a hard freeze-the tomatoes will ripen indoors okay-my two cats are indoor residents, so no extra care is needed-once I’m able to get a place that has more acreage to build my nest/cabin, I’ll have chickens, guineas-and maybe a couple of goats-to lock up at night to keep predators from turning them into take-out meals, and a much bigger garden to fence...

Good Luck in making your dreams come true! I just moved to Beau’s 160 acre Piece of Heaven. It took him FIVE YEARS and a big old diamond ring to convince me...because I already had my own little Piece of Heaven, though only on 2 acres, LOL!

I ‘retired’ from a paying job to work on/develop the farm with him. He retired this past August. We have BIG plans for even more self-sufficiency and streams of income from this place. We figure we have a good 20 years left in us, physically.

I spent the day baking bread. I wish FR had Smell-A-Vision; you guys would be going NUTS over how GOOD it smells in my house, today!

It’s the little things, for sure! :)
