2017 seen as turning point for liberal democracies

When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, American political scientist Francis Fukuyama famously proclaimed the “end of history”, seeing the triumph of the United States as the only remaining superpower and the leader of Western democracies.

“The end point of mankind’s ideological evolution and the universalization of Western liberal democracy (is) the final form of human government,” he wrote in his best-selling 1992 book, The End of History and the Last Man.

Twenty-five years later, Fukuyama’s certainties have all but vanished. Liberal democracy in Europe and the United States is in crisis, while China and Russia demonstrate that authoritarian regimes are increasingly determining global priorities. […]

“Never before have I seen national governments so weakened by the forces of populism and paralyzed by the risk of defeat in the next elections,” lamented European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker during his State of the EU address in September. …

Jeesh, for the last time, we are a constitutional republic, not a democracy.

That little fact escapes Fukuyama and his fellow travelers. But they’ve done too much to “democratize” the republic already.

A Euro weenie upset that folks still have a sense of national patriotism - it weakens those that would subjugate them.....

We are a democracy in the sense that we freely choose our government, unlike a dictatorship. No need to split hairs on this.

Internal instability and external chaos. Europe intends to protect itself from a perfect storm by praying to the goddess of liberal democracy, blessed by Fukuyama, to remain as it stands today.
********************************

The author completely ignores that Islam is on the march and taking over western Europe. France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Denmark will be under sharia and part of the caliphate in my lifetime.
Islam has no use for liberal democracy except to use it to take their countries from them.
Once they are numerous enough, the muslims will impose sharia. Everyone will submit or die. That is the Islamic way.
Eastern Europe shows signs of having a survival instinct and will not follow their western counterparts down the road of self-destruction. Importing Islam after repulsing it militarily for 1400 years is as stupid as it gets.

Most citizens of a free democratic state are too wrapped up in their own needs and pleasures. They fail to take on their duty to support and keep their freedoms.

Only a few prefer liberty—the majority seek nothing more than fair masters.

Turning point for anti-truth, anti-freedom, anti-individual, anti-life totalitarians and their collectives.

This truth seems so obvious. It is amazing that some of the people pushing the hardest for this would be first among those thrown off roofs once Sharia is in place.

The reason for this importation of Muslims is to up the ante in the rule-by-crisis strategy. The founders of the EU always wanted the people to give up their freedoms and sovereignty to a central imperial authority. Since the economic crisis of 2008 didn’t get them to their goal, this “refugee” crisis is the fall-back plan.

Liberal Democracy is another term for “Socialist.” Socialism turns into authoritarian dictatorships. Truth is, Trump’s victory does in fact destroy liberal democracies and puts back government by and for the people.

“Was it then a democracy the framers created? Hardly. The system of restraints, on the face of it, was directed not only against individual tyrants, but also against a tyranny of the masses. The framers were well aware of the danger posed by self-seeking demagogues—that they might persuade a majority of the people to confer on government vast powers in return for deceptive promises of economic gain.” …

The Conscience of a Conservative, Ch. 2, p. 18
So-called “liberal democracy”, therefore, is the destabilizing stage that is intended to lead to authoritarianism.

We are a constitutional republic with some democratic institutions. The word "democracy" is nowhere to be found in the founding documents. There is a good reason for that.

If “democratic institutions” have appeared, they are extra-Constitutional.

It’s not being persnickety, we are referred to as democracy on purpose and for the exact reasons that we are not.

Same thing as them always calling us America instead of the United States of America. Even the bozos on our side do it.

Popular vote for the House is extra-Constitutional?

How is that democratic? It is constitutional republican, rather; the people choosing representatives rather than pushing their own will on everyone else by referendum.
