An ugly American viral video last week and now a riot-prevention shutdown. What next?
Re the Mall and “what next”? How about a very strong, swift police roundup of the “youths” to check their IDs to not only see who they are, but also to check for outstanding warrants?
You need some probable cause to do this but legal charges of “disorderly conduct”, “interference with commerce”, loitering, disruptive conduct, suspicious of public drunkenness, possible weapons possessions, and “threatening behavior” can all be used to do a “stop and question”, if not a “stop and fisk” is something looks like a weapon in a pocket or in the pants waist.
The police need to know who these jerks are, and let them know that they know. The smart ones will tone down their rowdiness while the stupids will end up in jail where they belong.
Our malls must be made safe again for the shopping public and store employees.
