Brian Burns, a son of Joe Kennedys closest political advisor and a leading Irish American philanthropist, will be Donald Trumps choice as Ambassador to Ireland, New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman has tweeted.
Burns name was first reported by IrishCentral as the likely choice earlier this month.
Burns and his wife Eileen have close personal ties to Trump and were at Mar-a-lago, in Palm Beach, FL, for Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations. They were early supporters of the billionaire, who counts them as close friends. [ ]
The 80-year-old Burns is a nationally regarded businessman, attorney and philanthropist. He is the chairman of BF Enterprises Inc., a publicly owned real estate holding and development company.

Not much heavy lifting required. Lots of parties, though.
.
I don’t imagine he’s expected to hump 20 miles with an 80 lb pack, or run a marathon. Just have a sharp, working brain, and a love of out country.
So what is wrong with an 80 yo ambassador to Ireland? Beats the shit out of appointed JFK's daughter ambassador to Japan, an important ally.
And I'll have you one more...I am 81 and I could serve with distinction as ambassador to ANY country. I love my country, the USA. I would be USA First! But of course I have mental capacities and an IQ beyond most of what we know as politicols. :)
Might even give you a run for your money...
Not many know about Fawlty Towers...
Or Burns is a Scottish last name.
Good for you and well said. My grandmother passed away at 86, after breaking a hip in the shower. She was simply the most intelligent person I have ever met.
About 10 years ago one of my very best friends passed away, Louie was 96. Louie was a rancher for most of his life. Even in his 90’s he was still bringing in his own hay. After his doctor cut off half of one of his feet, he had to hire a few kids to help him, but he was there for every bale of hay. I miss him and his intelligence. Funny, we would chat for about 10 minutes and the next thing you’d know if half the day was gone and we had solved the problems of the world. ;>)
I am 68 and I don’t expect to live much longer, but between now and then, I try to remember those I have met and have fun along the way.
I played tennis until i was 87. Was a good doubles player as well.
Yep, age is just a number. We had a temp working for us in our office this week. I thought he was perhaps 50. When he told me he was 75 I was floored. He had more energy than almost anyone there, too.
I am a young 61, fitness trainer, runner. Cannot tell you how inspired I have been lately by those in their eighties and older who run the 5 and 10ks I’ve been in. I admire you...hope you’re still active!
Don't expect to? Reason for that? I am in good health for an octogenarian, and I expect to live for as long as the Lord wants me to live. I work every day to help people. They come to me for advice on various things, including healthy choices outside of the allopathic realm. I teach. I am a researcher. Sometimes I even take my own advice... :)
