Great news. Woolsey is a hardcore neocon whose ideas are out of step with the platform Trump ran on.

I should have written Trump “reportedly” walked back his earlier announcement about reorganizing the intelligence structure. The alleged walk back that was reported on Fox during the 6:00 pm Fox Report, based on a Trump tweet, but I haven’t seen the tweet.

Neoncon warmongers OUT. We don’t need another Cold War to fund your lobby clients. Build an Israeli’style fence or wall. Put troops on the BORDER. Defend our homeland. Kick out visa overstayers and criminal illegals. Deny visas to any country that won’t take their criminal nationals back...even U.N. diplomats. AMERICA FIRST.

Campaign managers are specs in the world order of politics and spying.

I suspect Trump is learning a hard and fast lesson in these few weeks about the intelligence community and power.

They kill for an agenda.

Some big dude in a military uniform says it needs restructuring....that it’s in bad shape...and he was before Congress when he said it.

Megyn Kelly thought that she had the scoop of the week. She was shocked when she couldn't get Woolsey to bad-mouth Trump. Woolsey said that he didn't resign from the transition team because he had never been a member of it. He had been part of the campaign, but not the transition team. Kelly was really frustrated that Woolsey wouldn't corroborate the anonymous sources in the WaPo article.

I had just finished reading the WaPo article linked here when Kelly came on. I have not watched her show in over a year but am glad I did tonight.

Sounds like his role in the transition was just over.
The media want to make of it than that of course!

Thanks for his help, now Flynn is taking charge.

He has an agenda & he is sticking to it. Just like building a hotel - buy the land, build the building, hold a Grand Opening, watch the money flow in.

A businessman is in charge now and if you can’t git ‘er done under budget & ahead of schedule, Trump will find somebody who will.

I’m sure he has bested smarter businessmen than those blowhard do-nothings in Washington.

I am confused.
If he was never part of the transition team there was nothing to quit..or to resign...etc.

So why come out today with whatever announcement he came out with.

I haven’t read Truman’s post-JFK-assassination statement. I am now reading Waller’s biography of William “Wild Bill” Donovan. Truman and Donovan had clashed over the nature of a post-war intelligence agency, with Donovan favoring an OSS-like structure that combined field ops and desk-bound intelligence analysis. Donovan was pushed aside, but the structure he preferred closely resembles the organizational setup the CIA had from the beginning.

“Effective immediately, Ambassador Woolsey is no longer a Senior Adviser to President-elect Trump or the transition,” Woolsey’s spokesman, Jonathan Franks, wrote in a statement that was first reported by CNN’s Jeremy Diamond. “He wishes the President-elect and his Administration great success in their time in office.”

A Clinton guy. Intelligence under Clinton went to far south that 9-11 actually took them by surprise.

Not sure why Trump picked him and would be interested in hearing the difference between Woolsey’s and Trump’s vision for intelligence, but I have a feeling Trump’s is closer to what we need - hopefully more like Reagan’s vision - sharp and effective.

Wolsey's government career:

Woolsey has served in the U.S. government as:
Advisor (during military service) on the U.S. Delegation to the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (SALT 1), Helsinki and Vienna, 1969–1970
General Counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services, 1970–73
Under Secretary of the Navy, 1977–1979
Delegate at Large to the U.S.-Soviet Strategic Arms Reduction Talks (START) and Nuclear and Space Arms Talks (NST), Geneva, 1983–1986
Ambassador to the Negotiation on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE), Vienna, 1989–1991
Director of CIA, 1993–1995

IOW's this Yale / Yale law-school lawyer has spent most of his life in the boring dreary business of arms control negotiation, compared to which watching TV test patterns at 3AM is a white-knuckle thrill ride.

He is hardly a career intel expert.

You can sail under false colors; you can fly false colors; but you can’t “fly under” false colors.

Well, maybe if you flew really really low...

“Read it and tell me he didn’t believe they were behind it.”

Just because he thought it, doesn’t make it so. Harry wasn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer.

“After a national tragedy, he ran straight to his desk to write this.”

The only thing that made JFK’s death a national tragedy was that LBJ succeeded him. Eight years of JFK, and we would probably have lost the Cold War.

This statement is what Woolsey was trying to clarify, or spin if one is cynical. Woolsey said on Fox that he didn’t really “resign” as an advisor to the Trump transition team because he has never functioned as an advisor to Trump since the campaign. As I wrote, that begs the question of why he was shunted aside as the transition team was put together.
