Former CIA director R. James Woolsey Jr., a veteran of four presidential administrations and one of the nation’s leading intelligence experts, resigned Thursday from President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team because of growing tensions over Trump’s vision for intelligence agencies.

This is probably why he’s leaving. I’d fire him for this.

“In response to host Jim Sciutto’s questions about what Trump knows that intelligence agencies and Congress don’t, former CIA head James Woolsey explained that hacking leaves “room for weaving around like this.” Sciutto asked, “You’re saying he is weaving around by talking about this putative information?”

Woolsey explained that by doing this, Trump generates new headlines like he did during the campaign, Sciutto wanted to know if he was saying Trump was “playing us.”

“There is a possibility that he is a little bit, yes,” a smiling Woolsey answered.

A somewhat shocked Sciutto questioned the ex-CIA head, “Is that something a president-elect should be doing on a serious issue of national security?”

Yes; see my post at #80. Woolsey emphasized at the beginning of the interview that he was, and is, a Trump supporter. He also said that he didn’t know exactly what Trump has in mind with regard to intelligence reorganization, but that some serious restructuring was needed.

“Truman specifically said it was NOT created to be a field “cloak and dagger” (his term) agency. He wrote that its purpose was to be a clearinghouse for data, from all federal agencies, to channel quality data to the president. Its original purpose wasn’t field ops.”

The reasons he gave were exactly the reasons that FDR gave for establishing the OSS.

At the war’s end, Truman was flim-flammed into abolishing that fine organization. (Not too bright, remember.) Later, he had to replace it with the CIA.

I’m sure he didn’t want the CIA discommoding his buddies in the USSR, but after Eisenhower was elected that was a lower priority.

From the beginning, the OSS had both field ops and desk jockeys. FDR received the work product of both groups, but he also received intelligence from competing intel groups in the US and Allied military. The structure the CIA adopted resembles that of the OSS. “Wild Bill” Donovan’s vision for the CIA was put in place, but he was pushed aside and never had a role in its implementation.

Expressed perfectly, couldn’t agree more.

How have you considered all the back-stabbing anti tweets being posted to this thread? What is the intent?

Actually, the guy was cut off and cut out. Woolsey leans neo-con and Jarred brought the wrong guy on board this time.

The Establishment war hawks are Establishment Republicans who do not want to make friends with TRUMP or his friendly reset attempt with Russia.

McCain and Graham and now, surprisingly, the Dems are neo-cons war hawks. All this over the damn DNC! Never China. Just Russia. Russia takes no guff off the boy prez and toys with him. Obama is miffed and wants to destroy Putin... over the DNC.

If you're not part of the solution there is good money to be made in prolonging the problem. (Government employee joke.)

Harry Truman, former president:

“I never had any thought that when I set up the CIA that it would be injected into peacetime cloak and dagger operations.....There is something about the way the CIA has been functioning that is casting a shadow over our historic position, and I feel that we need to correct it.”

- published in Washington Post of 22 Dec 1963, exactly one month after JFK’s murder. Excerpted in the Church Committee testimony of Clark Clifford.

Eight years of JFK, and we would probably have lost the Cold War.

Can you tell me why, in nutshell?

What is your take on JFK's role in the Cuban Missile Crisis?

Trump tweeted this was FAKE. Woolsey was part of the campaign, never part of transition team. WaPo at it again!

Sorry my bad. Trump did not tweet about this.

Woolsey himself said it’s fake while on The Kelly File. Straight from the horse.

“What is your take on JFK’s role in the Cuban Missile Crisis?”

Khrushchev had his way with JFK like a skunk with a cabin-full of little girls.

After wringing a number of important concessions from the horn-dog weakling, he allowed JFK to save face as he laughed himself into hysteria.

My gut tells me Woolsey is to compromised to help with any of the swamp draining.
