From my view this particular airport was selected so as to maximize the impact on the public and tourist.

FLL is only 2 miles from the busiest cruise port almost anywhere. 45,000 people get off and on those ships on the busiest days. So add that to the airport passenger numbers and you got an ISIS selected and directed target.

My take.

I have been telling family and friends for several years that I believe a major objective of jihadists will be to shut down the tourist industry worldwide. Haven’t researched what the economic impact of doing so would be, but I suspect it would be substantial.
