Front National chief surges ahead after calling for Trump-style economic policies in France

Right-wing populist Marine Le Pen of the Front National is now leading opinion polls ahead of France’s presidential elections in the spring.

A new poll from Ifop-Fiducial released Tuesday shows Le Pen at first place with the backing of 26.5% of voters, while her moderate center-right rival Francois Fillon, of Les Republicains, would receive just over 24% of the vote,...

“He is putting in place measures I have been demanding for years,” Le Pen said of Trump. The new poll, ... was based on a sample of 1,860 registered voters ... margin of error of 1.3%.

...the first time Le Pen has led with voters since November, and coincides with a noticeable decline in popularity for Fillon, who was polling at roughly 28%...

... Fillon’s slide in the polls [coincides with his statements] opposed to France’s exiting the Schengen-Treaty and ending its participation in free movement between E.U. member states.

Fillon, however, ... recognized ... his tactical error, ... is expected to announce his support for immigration quotas during a rally in Nice — the site of a brutal Islamic terrorist attack in July 2016.

Le Pen, meanwhile, continues to beat the drums of nationalist populism ... taking notes from Donald Trump. She has added restoring French manufacturing — specifically regarding the car industry — to her list of priorities.

“He is putting in place measures I have been demanding for years,” Le Pen said of Trump on Tuesday. “I don't mind explaining to French companies that they cannot escape tax that they should be paying in France, that they cannot go offshore without suffering the consequences ... A choice has to be made, a choice of patriotism.”

Good. Even though her party, FN, is wrong on many issues, it is still far better than the globalist shills in the other major parties.

Schengen would be a good treaty if the EU actually controlled EU borders to the extent that the member states want it to.

It’s sad to see Schengen become disreputable, but that’s what happens when you abdicate responsibility.

This is the exact reason that the Federal government was given control over naturalization in the U.S. Constitution, and no immigration controls between the States was also implemented: so that each state knew that quality of people coming into their state from another was subject to a uniform rule.

Jefferson and Madison were centuries ahead of their European bretheren.

Our current government has of course completely abandoned their responsibility.

Is it probable that even if she wins the first round, most of the loser votes would go to the center-right guy? I hope not, but that is usually what happens in Europe, I think. Just happened that way in a Central Europe country where the nationalist anti immigrant person won the first round, but lost the run off, if I remember correctly.

It won’t matter in the end. Le Pen cannot win the general election with just 26.5% of the vote, and ANYONE who is her top opponent will get enough votes splintered off from the other candidates to put them ahead, when the actual votes are counted. THE VOTERS backing all the other candidates will collectively insure Le Pen does not win.

Marine Lepen is no Trump unfortunately. She is a lawyer (!), an economics ignoramus with fascist tendencies (she has never worked in the private & productive sectors) and she has an environmental program that Greenpeace would applaude. She lives with another aparatchik of the party and is not even married. The only thing Trumpian in her is the wall.

Her father, who founded the Front National party, was a real libertarian and non-interventionnist, with a coherent ideological line. She has been put in place by her father but she has booted him out of the party (they don’t talk with one another anymore), a despicable betrayal which is evidence of not only her disloyalty but also of her lack of real political program.

I will vote for her in the primary to show a big midfinger to the chattering class but I will certainly NOT vote her into the presidency, no way.

In the US, the Dems and the NeverTrump RINOs joined together to try to beat Trump, thus demonstrating that they were just two faces of the Establishment.

Le Pen needs to convince French voters that a vote for anyone else is a vote for the Establishment.
