A lot of this stems from decades of disastrous One-Child policy. After the second generation, each child has no brothers and sisters: but he has 2 parents, 4 grandparents, and 8 great-grandparents all to himself. He has no idea how to share, how to wait his turn, or how to relate to peers. This One Child Glorious is the sole focus of the generational hopes and fears of almost every adult he knows. Famously, when kindergarten children in China were polled to see what they want to be when they grew up, half said "Premier of China" and the others didn't want to grow up at all.
