"I have to protect the Filipino people. It is my duty. And I tell you now, if I have to declare martial law, I will declare it," Duterte said, in a speech before a group businessmen in his hometown of Davao on Saturday night. "I don't care about the Supreme Court. No one can stop me," he said. "The right to preserve one's life and my nation ... transcends everything else, even the limitations."
Duterte has vowed to stamp out the trade and use of illegal drugs in the Philippines to stop the country from becoming what he called a narco-state. That man definitely has a problem with the rule of law — the Obama regime on steroids.
Rosie O’Donut should move there to escape Prez. Trump.
She’s been agitating loudly for martial law here. Might be a good learning experience for her.
Here’s the latest “lets all hate Durerte” thread.
Quick send rosie o’donnell over there.
Martial law under Marcos made life boring.
Living here in the Philippines, I can say that most Philippinos agree with his war on drug dealers. I don’t like everything about him, but he’s definitely taking it to the drug cartels. As far as declaring martial law, I don’t see it right now, just think its part of his rhetoric. If you’re pissing off the UN, obama, and all the liberal do-gooders, then you’re doing something right.
Thank you very much for your ‘in country’ report.
Not all of us Freepers are crazy, many of us realize the tremendous fight the country is involved in when it come to drugs.
“That man definitely has a problem with the rule of law”
Martial law in certain critical situation is consistent with the rule of law it is part of a country’s law. Sometimes it is called a “state of emergency”.
In the US, it’s actually in the constitution...
“The martial law concept in the United States is closely tied with the right of habeas corpus, which is in essence the right to a hearing on lawful imprisonment, or more broadly, the supervision of law enforcement by the judiciary. The ability to suspend habeas corpus is related to the imposition of martial law.[24] Article 1, Section 9 of the US Constitution states, “The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it.””

what is different is that Duterte got a lot of the low level dealer and some of the Chinese drug manufacturers here and the next step is the mayors and soon the higher politicians.
It may be the only way to get justice when bribery and killing witnesses keep you out of jail.
our nephew was killed by a former mayor here, and 10 years later he recently died in his bed due to bribes etc.
