OK so if NATO is obsolete and we need to let Japan and Korea worry about their own defense then why do we need a massive defense buildup?

So that we always negotiate from a position of strength that is responsible only to American Interests, no others.

GREATEST mistake in 1945 was America letting the Russians take Berlin. We’ve paid the price ever since. Nevertheless, the Russians are better than the Muslims. We may need to join forces to defeat Isis.

A serious mistake, consequently alienating Eastern Europeans, Slavs and Christians, rational analysis, and a likely and reasonable conclusion in four sentences.

Well done.

“In the most likely scenario these days, when Russian tanks come streaming through the Fulda Gap,”

Amazing. How exactly is this “the most likely scenario”? I keep seeing that, but a cursory look at the map has shown Russia collapsed to their own borders. NATO has relentlessly, year by year expanded east.
With the completely homegrown (/s)and innocent Kiev coup, NATO was about to literally be given the Russian Navy base in Crimea and NATO would finally extend right up to the Russian border. NATO tanks could mass 300 miles from Moscow and 240 miles from Volgograd.
Then simultaneously we attacked Syria their only ally where they have their only permanent base outside of Russia.

They begin to respond menacingly, almost like a rattlesnake beginning to rattle. And we utterly freak out about their aggression.

It would be comical if it wasn’t so dangerous.

Well big talker, sounds like you were never a grunt. The Russians lost 81,000 dead, and 281,000 wounded taking Berlin. That’s about 5 times our loss in the battle of Okinawa, or 5 times the battle of the Bulge. On day one of D-day we lost about 2,500 dead.

And big shots like to say how we should have strolled into Berlin where 80k Russians died. No thanks.

“NATO is vital to keep Europe free.”

The problem with that statement is that Western Europe is no longer free, thanks to their Socialist, Globalist governments. Western Europe is hellbent on destroying Western Civilization by allowing criminal Muslim invaders to overtake their countries. And NATO is helping them.

Remember the immoral, terrorist bombing of Serbia by NATO to protect Muslim terrorists in Bosnia & Kosovo? I’ve hated NATO ever since that atrocity.

Europe is facing an invasion, true, but not from the Russians. Don’t forget, the dangerous Islamic state of Turkey is also in NATO.

The Germans did not hold us in contempt or great fear as they did the Russians. They already had a history with Russia. Check out your history and you will find thousands surrendering to the Americans to avoid Russian capture. In fact, learn something from history besides “numbers” which you think, falsely, prove your point. Statistics have many qualifiers. Why don’t you mention the Cold War, for instance, or How many died trying to bridge the Berlin Wall? When you learn to use qualifiers reasonably,”big talker”, come back to me for some more lessons!
P.S. Without the USA and our Merchant Marine, the Russians would have starved to death and wouldn’t have had arms to fight with, clothes to wear, or Jeeps for their officers to fight over. Without our entrance in the war with the Invasion of North Africa(Operation Torch) there wouldn’t have been a Second Front which bled the Germans and cost them dearly. Rommel knew the war was lost after the loss of Sicily and Italy. Too bad we didn’t listen more to General Patton.

I could support that. Bilateral defense treaties with the Baltic states, Poland, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria.

Step 1 - make them worry
Step 2 - renegotiate
Repeat as necessary.

It’s working so far. Carrier. Ford. Sprint. His tweets work because they know that he’ll do what he says.

Germans would have gladly surrendered if the Yanks went into Berlin.

The Germans heard all of the stories about the Red Army raping women. Many women committed suicide rather than be taken by the Russians. That’s why the Germans fought so fiercely in Berlin even though they knew it was a lost cause.
